why did you pick your user name ? what meaning to you does it have?
mine is findus reason ; my first name is chris and my surname is pearce, at school i was known by the teachers as chris p as there were others with the same first name
(its a good name  )
do any of you remember chris p FINDUS pancakes?? well thats where it comes from ;D
Probs makes no sense to anybody :-[
now tell me yours
That's too funny Findus. I do remember the ads. I used to love those but my mum wouldn't buy them very often.
So, mine is very geeky :-[ and not funny at all. When I was 10 or 12, around the time I was trainspotting, I was also interested in physics :-\ and they had not long before discovered Quarks (that make up sub-atomic particles). :o The word Quark was coined by physicist Murray Gell-Mann from a James Joyce poem called Finnegan's Wake. The line reads "Three quarks for Muster Mark" and since my name is Mark, I chose that a while ago for a website and have also used it on the forums.
Told you it was geeky.
some good reasons, its amazing how life and the experience you have along the way can stick in your mind so much you name your self after the events.
i used to have another nick name when i was with the scouts it was biffa, after the bin company as i was the only one who would eat all the food that was cooked i hated to waste things and still do :D
Why ToothFairy? Because Father Christmas and the Easter Bunny are only seasonal, and God would have been a bit presumptuous . . .

I'm captain of the Good Ship Electra...it could also be my secret Super Alter-Ego :)
There are some far worse ones out there...how about "Drew Peacock"?
For my sins  I was a clockmaker repairer for about 38 years so the name came from my work. The misspellin of 'jon' and 'clox' was done to make it into an easy email address.
For several years I also used the name 'escapement' online but that often required explaining to people

My name was first given to me at scouts at the age of 11, where when playing the game British Bulldog I used to flatten everyone, even the 16 year olds. ;D This continued at school in the rugby team, and finally came to light in my motorcycle club. So, all rather violent reasons! :smiley-laughing:
Mine is simple, my mates say I look like an Owl, just like the one in my avatar and I can even swivel my head 360 degrees!!!(he heeee). I am also a very wise man(LoL). 729 just seems to be my lucky number, after all it's the most money i've won on a horse. Put the two together: Owl729
:Class31:
Mine comes from the class 3R (201?) DEMUs which called at my local station, Farnborough North, on the Reading-Redhill line every hour.
These had a power car and intermediate trailer from a disbanded Hastings set, and the driving trailer from an EPB-style EMU. The latter was very obviously wider than the other slab-sided Hastings-gauge cars, hence a tadpole-like appearance. The driving trailer was locked out of use, and was mostly used for parcels. The two narrow cars contained a 500hp engine and about the same number of seats as a 121 bubble car in a 2+2 layout.
They were numbered 1201-1206, and it was not unusual to see at least five of the six in one day. It was a cause for great excitement when anything else turned up on a passenger service on this line (except for the 0902 to Reading which was a 33+three Mk1s and a van). When the units were withdrawn, the EPB driving trailers were attached to the remaining 2-car Hampshire (2H) sets, which they matched perfectly, to make more 3-car sets.
Mine is my nickname from work......
Because I have a love for porkpies, and have one nearly every day for my lunch ;D
My surname is Hacker an my nickname at school and later was pronounced häckmän in German. On some mailing systems "hacker" is not allowed as an email adress be it my name or not so i switched to häckmän which is not to be spelt in English and therefore not on the net either. Instead of chosing "hackman" which would have been the correct pronounciation, too, I took the german transliteration "haeckmaen" and just kept on using and using it at several opportunities...
upnick .......... comes from my liking for Union Pacific railroads & Nick is my second name :)

Oldrailbug mmm well I am 68 this year so i'm getting old, railbug ha been one of them since I used to go train spotting at Longbridge on the Birminghan to Bristol line in the 1957, that was up until my parents dragged me off to Australia in 1957, still miss home.
Mine is because I'm a Tractor Boy (Ipswich Town Football Club supporter for non footballers among us). I was a season ticket holder for along time until 2 seasons ago when I moved to Rugby, Warwickshire and found the price of petrol was far to high to travel home for every game. So with the new found time on my hand at weekends I turned back to the hobby of Model railways and enjoy it more now than when I was younger as I have slightly more money and don't have to save paper round money or wait for my Birthday or Christmas for a new rake of wagons.
Ooh and Matt is my name!
That's me Tractor Matt (oooh arrh)
Mine came from my kids friends, there is usually "Big" in front of it. Hence BPJ
Mine's quite simple: First Name is Oliver, so Ollie for short. And 3440 City Of Truro is my all time favourite Engine.

Much as I like Ronnie James Dio, I'd still rather hear Ozzy sing Warpigs or Paranoid...
And I'd still rather hear Bob Dylan sing the stuff he wrote than... well, hear almost anybody else sing them.
And yes, Freddie Mercury was great. [And the Metallica cover of Stone Cold Crazy is nowhere near as good as the original]
One moment while I look behind the sofa for the point I had when I started writing this... Nope, it's not there.

:D
Sprintex: Anyone who's looked at my website will probably have seen where the name comes from, but a here's a quick explanation. Me and the misses are heavily into our Ford Sierras, after all that's how we met! Mine is a 1990 XR4x4 2.9i V6 model which I've had for 12 years now, and a few years back I managed to purchase a VERY rare Sprintex Supercharger kit for it - they only ever made 12 kits before the company marketing them changed to making big-CC engines instead. There appears to be only about three of these kits left, and the other two may not be complete, whereas mine came from a fully-working car and is complete and original :). Unfortunately time and mileage (240,000 miles to be precise!) have taken their toll on the car itself so it's now a long-term project to return the car to showroom condition before I bolt the supercharger kit on and have a positively unique car to take to shows
Here she is just before she came off the road for the rebuild:-

Jack being my name, the only thing to explain about my user name is perhaps the last four numbers, but then anyone that's been in the Services will know that's its impossible to forget your Service number no matter how hard you try! If you did forget you went to the rear of the pay queue until you remembered :( . I demoded in 1980 and so as I can't lose it so I use it, well the last four numbers anyway. :)
I guess lots of you know where my forum name came from, but as Sprintex has given this a MASSIVE bump..............
I was born and raised in Wolverton (then Buckinghamshire) and did all my early trainspotting there. My dad worked in the Carriage Works so an interest in railways was pretty much inevitable. From Wolverton (on what is now the WCML) there ran a branch line to Newport Pagnell and the local train was known as Newport Nobby (or Nobby Newport).
Here's the history as per Wickedpedia

Originally my user name was 4x2ybecauseican. I've build (and never finished :-[) loads of 4 foot by 2 foot layouts, mainly 'cos i was a lazy so-and-so and couldn't be bothered to cut any wood....Hence the name ! But it was quite a mouthful and i got fed up of typing it out, so i shortened it to 4x2.
I've got braver now though... My current US N scale layout 'Earlstone Creek' is 5'6" x 22" :D

I'm Bigbear because my kids, when little, used to say I was like a big bear when I got annoyed... (See what fear I induced in them even then? - Pah!). Since then, it's been my nickname on forums, ebay, and at work... Sometimes with a UK tagged on if there's a bigbear around already. My business is called Big Bear Recordings too, so I guess I'll never escape it now.
My user name......
I like trains
I live in Australia......... hence 'trainsdownunder' .....QED.
Also an Arsenal fan so my other ego is 'grumpygooner'.
My first ever forum name, not here, and still current ebay name was hockeynetbuster - Used to be a centrefoward in my favourite sport of field hockey. Stopped using it mainly as I became a qualified GK coach and felt it didn't quite fit anymore Still play and also active as a coach for the local school.
The other reason behind my name is that I was nicknamed Guppy many years ago at work as they reckoned I drank like a fish, even at 16 and I am still called it by some. I also support the mighty Swindon Town. Then the internet got invented and of course football forums. I started as something else which I can't remember but decided that I needed a new name. So, I used the 'Town' from Swindon Town and the 'Fish' as that's what a guppy is. From then on I was called TownFish usually with a © after it if the forum used allowed it. Then I couldn't use it on ebay as someone else was called that so as I was buying/selling a lot of football programmes and other football stuff I became FootyFish. Then railway forums were added to my list and TrainFish was born. Since then I'm also GolfFish in a couple of places but I forget where, that's the problem with being a fish.
By the way, I was also registered on youtube as townfish up until about 3 months ago. I got an email from someone who had www.townfish.co.uk (http://www.townfish.co.uk) registered and wanted to use my name townfish on youtube. They said they may even be able to pay a small fee so I asked how much. It took me about 2 nanoseconds to accept the £150 they offered which went straight into the train fund :claphappy:
Ps, training fish is just a sideline these days, there's not much call for those skills around here. :(

You might say it fin-ished, I suppose?
I used the name oldshutterbug for many years on photography forums, that was when I was a camera freak, got back into model railways so I thought, well i'm still old but now as always was a rail freak so oldrailbug was born.
Swiss Tony - This was awarded me in my younger days when I owned five cars at one point... (Swiss Tony the dodgey car dealer from the fast show!!).......
Mine was from school too.
'Robert' inevitably became 'Rabbit', which with lazy teenagers got shortened to 'Rabs'

Neonoodle, i get asked a lot what is stands for, simple nothing! lol
I wanted a online name that was original, and i was playing a PC game at the time called hardwar and my fav ship was the Neo Tiger. So i came up with the name Neo Neil, and Neil was my first name, but soon got bored, so i combined the ships name with my favourite snack at the time with has Super noodles (so student eh!) so i came up with Neonoodle!
At the time and for many years if you typed it into internet search engines nothing would apear, now you get alsorts, so i say everyone stole it lol. I even have some pool floats named after me!!!

Very nice!
Mine was a very original M plate 80 2.0E sport which I fiddled with. Ronal wheels with bare alloy polished lip, polybushed all round (wishbones, front ARB, rear beam), greenstuff pads up front, BOGE turbogas dampers, URs4 front buckets, spare set of Ronal aero wheels with winter tyres along with all the little bits and pieces you generally do to a car you love!! Got broken a few years ago and was replaced by a Toyota Starlet as Manchester insurance and a 200 mile a week commute wasn't being very pleasant to me. Are you on audifans or nogsport forums?
