I'm looking to build a small n gauge layout that's set in the late 1950's -early 1960's. I'm not having much luck finding any ready to run ex GWR locos apart from 57xx pannier tanks or the Dapol 63xx 2-6-0 mogul. Does anyone know of any other ex GWR locos that are available?

Hello

You might find the second-hand market of interest.

Dapol made a '45xx' 2-6-2T and a '14xx' 0-4-2T.

Peco made a '2251' 0-6-0 'Collett Goods'.

And, my own favourites, the Union Mills' GWR range comprised a 'Dean Goods' 0-6-0, '2251' 'Collett Goods 0-6-0', a 'Dukedog' 4-4-0 and City of Truro.

Good luck with your project.

All good wishes.

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.

BachFar do an excellent 64xx pannier while Sonic do a superb 56xx and, if you can wait, are bringing out a large Prairie maybe next year

ODRAILS

Dapol have produced the Hall 4-6-0, the Grange 4-6-0 and the Manor 4-6-0. Some are still available new on-line or second hand. Farish also
produced the GWR diesel railcar

The Dapol 63xx is still in development so you won't find any for sale yet.
Both Dapol and Farish do the 57xx and variants.
Farish did a 61xx which is available on the secondhand market.

Actually Dapol do a current 57xx, and did a 14xx 0-4-2.
Farish did a 57xx and before that a 94xx pannier.
Farish's current pannier is a 61xx (which was prototypically auto coach compatible). The 57xx was not.

Availability is down to batch production, so you either get one when it comes out or you wait and get one secondhand.

Only the Dapol 57xx and Farish 61xx are DCC ready.

In reality there is a decent choice of ex GWR locos if you buy secondhand. Better choice than any of the other Big-4 contenders.

Everything that others have said about loco types is also correct. No one has mentioned the 2884 heavy freight loco but that's not really branch line material :)

You are getting your 1s and 4s mixed up. In both cases it's a 64xx not a 61xx.

Still probably enough to get a GCSE in maths though. And the poor OP is going to get really confused.

The GWR Modelling website have listings of GWR stock that is/has been available:
http://www.gwr.org.uk/kits2mmrtrstock.html

A lot of suppliers have preowned locos:

(Select N gauge, steam locos, added last 180 days, Graham Farish and Dapol)

There are probably a lot more but this is what I knew.
