dapol A4 Silver King
« on: October 21, 2012, 06:17:23 PM »
Have Just purchased this Loco. First time of buying a Dapol model and am having problems with the front bogie derailing. It all started fine while running in, but started to derail at points and bend. Read up about loosening the screw to no avail. Tried various tried and trusted tricks but none have resolved this issue. And during the many handlings the foot plate has broke off  :(.   Must admit it looks good but in all honesty my two old ebay GF locos run smoother and quieter.
I have the dapol 0-6-0 pannier on order.....hope this is better.

Hi Yanos,

Before sending it anywhere, is your problem the same as this?

If so, it is a very simple ('cos I did it) repair

Hi

I agree with Newportnobby

From new, my Silver Link was OK at the front bogie but had to go to DCC Supplies with another problem (screeching) They fixed the screech but when they re-assembled the loco they introduced the front bogie problem - that shows how easy it is to get the assembly wrong.

It is easy to check - and fix - just look at the link.

I did mine and its now fine

Cheers

Mac

I find it a bit concerning that one of Dapol's approved service agents can get that wrong :worried:

It is incredibly easy to get it wrong- having done it myself- and not at all obvious that you have made the mistake.  The only sure way is to try it through pointwork, but even then an incorrectly assembled loco will sometimes run perfectly on the odd occasion- and sod's law says it will behave on test and fail when it gets home.....

All the very best
Les

Thanks all. I have checked out the bogie for alignment and now runs 90% fine with only an occasional derail at a point. Though why locos can run fine most of the time but then derail once beats me :confused2:

Hi Yanos,

If it's always the same point it derails on then I'd suggest examining the actual point.
What sort of points are you using?

I am using PECO points. but it is also at bends where the bogie de-rails, but is not consistant at which point or bend it derails.  I have now sent loco back to supplier for a replacement. So heres hoping.
