Ebay postage for Seller

When selling items by auction, ebay only list "simple postage" which gives BUYERS compensation for loss in transit but not SELLERS.
If I use the seller pays and then do not use the printed label but postage with insurance for loss, then ebay does not know when the item has been delivered.
Is ther some other way of covering both scenarios?

The whole point of simple postage was that eBay assumed the risk for both the seller and the buyer. In the event it wasn't delivered both are eligible for a refund, as long as the simple postage label was used (and scanned into the system). Is your comment based on experience?

Surely when you pay for the postage, you will buy the relevant insurance from the carrier (Royal Mail/Evri and others). If you go outside of Ebay's postage system how can they know?

When listing items on eBay, I try to send them 'postage only' with Royal Mail Tracked 48 IF I CAN. Sometimes, half-way through writing a listing, eBay says 'Your postage options have been updated' and it gets defaulted to 'Simple delivery'. I have not yet worked out how to get it back to Royal Mail, but usually if I copy an old listing with Royal Mail on it, it stays with Royal Mail...
I can handle Simple Delivery now I'm used to it, with EVRI and Royal Mail as the options for the buyer. INPOST used to be on the list, but I took it off after my nearest INPOST box was never able to accept my parcel 'cos the lockers were always full!

Slightly off-topic, a parcel I sent Royal Mail Tracked 48 on 10 August arrived with the buyer on 1 Sep, after I'd refunded him as it was officially 'lost' on 25 Aug. Royal Mail ain't what it used to be!

I have rarely had a good experience with EVRI. They once took a photo of an item in their van and said it was proof of delivery. I told them to "F" off. I got a full refund from AMAZON and low and behold the item turned up at my door the following week.

They are a totally useless shower as far as I am concerned.

Whatever system is used, if an item is lost in transit only one party needs to receive compensation for the item not BOTH.

If the compensation is paid to the SELLER; the SELLER will need to return the funds they received from the buyer...
If the compensation is paid to the BUYER; the SELLER retains the funds they have already received from the buyer...

I asked via the chat line wether the seller was covered but the answer was NO.
The royal mail 48 tracked only covers up to £75 so the compensation was by R.M.

I did send a parcel using special delivery which covered the value of the goods but by not using the ebay label the item was listed as not delivered for several months until I was able to delete it. The buyer had signed for it but did not provide feedback so ebay did not know.

That literally contradicts the primary benefit to sellers of Simple Delivery, which was that once the parcel is scanned into the network eBay assume the risk, that wasn't caveated up to a certain amount. Per PLD's comment above my wording is a bit clumsy, you're quite right you don't ever compensate both the buyer and the seller, but effectively there's mutual protection so no one loses out!

I would (/do) only use simple delivery, rather than trying to circumvent their processes.
