The question is:

I want an EWS Roadname loco from Revolution Trains.

I'm running a quasi-fictitious situation. I just want this "look" in the EWS livery. These two look similar enough to my Yankee eyes. They both look gorgeous.

It comes down to: which is the more reliable locomotive on-the-track?

Per my comment on Facebook they're the same loco under the body, so there is no "better". You buy the one which fits your use case, which is basically the 66 for everyone (unless you expressly want a 59) given how much more widely used the 66 is.

I figured there'd be some crossover.

Hi Scott,

As others have said the internals are largely the same, though of course there are numerous cosmetic differences.  Plus the PCBs have minor variations due to the differing arrangement of lights in the 66.

Also, if it's EWS you're after, remember that the 59s received the 'standard' EWS livery with a straight buff line, whereas the 66s arrived with the zig-zag version.

cheers

Class 66 is more widespread than the 59, but you might find the 59 easier to get hold of. Some Revolution stockists have already sold out of DC and DCC sound fitted EWS class 66.
