Farish produced the Nomix Chipman Class 20's and two Mk1 Coaches however the two or more other vehicles never appeared RTR.

I know some clever people kit-bashed items to suit the missing vehicles.

I wondered if any enterprising soul ever managed to produce a good 3D printed version?

Looking to expand my weedkiller train.

I 3D printed cab fronts for someone to go on some Maunsell (IIRC) coaches. Did some decals too with the Chipman logo for the driving coaches.

Not my era so no idea if they align with the Farish models.

Hi Brian,

Check RMWeb as there was a couple of topics covering this.

The Mk 1 coaches and the black TTA water only tanks that Farish produced to go with the class 20 pair are 1990s era. I remember them going through Epsom one day but I don't remember the entire train consist.

In my modelling eras (1060s/70s) they used Maunsell (set 7/8) and Maunsell and Bulleid (set 9/10, set 11/12, spare Bulleid spray coach no 13) as spray coaches and staff and dormitory coaches (yes the weedkilling team could sleep in the crew coach!), approx four water tanks (first red Class A tanks, then green class A tanks as made by Revolution marked Chipman and Weed Control), and then typically either an ex SR BY stores van in departmental olive livery, or a blue BR (not SR) CCT.
Latterly they used ex SR scenery vans as spray and stores vehicles (by 1985 you were not allowed to sleep on the train).

The consist varied a lot. In 1991 (still pre Farish era) they used a Scenery Van spray coach, Mk1 BSK crew coach, bogie Utility Van (all in Chipman green), VIX Ferry van in departmental yellow/grey, and 4 black TTA tanks sandwiched between two Hunslet-Barclay liveried 20s.

So basically you need to build a scenery van, or use a bogie utility van or two, and a VIX ferry van to make a representative rake for the 1990s version.

I'd love to talk to mr @njee20 about his 3D printed ends as I have the Maunsell coaches that formed Set 7/8 but have not dared to put a saw to them yet! Would love the logos too. Have a chance to do them now I'm retired.

Sorry people, I should have been more specific.

I am aware many different variations traversed the network from South to North of GB.

The specific train I am looking to model is
Number    Origin    Use
CC99016    Mark I BCK 21275    Dormitory & Storage Coach
CC99017    Mark I TSO 4066    Staff Coach
CC99018    Mark I TSO 4393    Chemical Storage Coach
CC99019    Mark I RMB 1870    Spray Coach

Farish produced 99016 & 99017

I am looking for potentially 3d prints of 99018 & 99019

Many thanks for your replies.

If you have photos/drawings then James @JimSan of this parish could print something up for you.
(sorry James for dropping you in it)

Hi Brian,

Ref link for most of the Chipman rakes...

The RMB could be done as a repaint of the Farish RMB - Check photos for visible modifications

The TSO 4893 could also be done this way - Same checks needed.

Here are 'my' ends fitted to a Maunsell coach. There's not much detail to them, so only so much you can do with them!

Yes, I've got those details Phil, thanks.

That cab end print looks pretty good to me. Easier than trying to carve square windows on the end, and there's a hole in the middle of teh Dapol coach where the corridor connection was.

I think the brake end of the original I was going to copy was a 4-compartment BSK in set 7/8, but they did have a 6 compartment BSK in set 9/10.

I'd like to do set 7/8 in the Chipman green with the logos on the coaches.

Drop me a PM if you want some Bob, happy to sort you out. Like I say, I've got the Chipman decals too (the white lettering on green coaches), although I can't guarantee sizing is pefect.

Hi Bob, many thanks for the information. I don't have drawings but have two photographs, one of each coach.

Not sure these are clear enough to do anything with to be honest.

If you can find photos of the other sides, and have a donor coach or access to e.g an RMB, you can measure the spacings of the windows, cutout panels, etc and a 3D print of the body can be done. It would make sense to put it on a new chassis with commonwealth bogies to match the original. It looks like they simply painted over the fixed windows of the RMB and left the vents clear and openable.

I can't see what bogies are on the other coach, but same with the windows on that. They just seem to be painted over. Farish used to do that on the simple conversions to departmental stock that they have made in the past.

One way of approaching this would be to simply cut the coach body where the flat panels are, and replace with slabs of plasticard. Old fashioned modelling! The sort I do best!

On the other hand, James has made plenty Mk 1 based coaches to know the coach profiles, so all you really need are views of the roof and sides of each. I'm sure a look around the departmentals website or flickr should yield something. Then you can ask James if he would like to print them. Up to you to do the graphics and paint.

Best regards
Bob

99018 is a former Mk1 TSO (4393). Any Farish Mk1 with the correct bogies (commonwealth) will work as a donor e.g. 374-018.

A 3rd print isn't needed. One window needs cutting out on each side (floor to roof) and replacing with a simulated roller shutter - Evergreen V groove or I think BH Enterprises may do an etched equivalent. The main windows then need painting along with the repaint of the body shell. I did a similar conversion to get a Mk1 Courier Van:

Mk1 Courier Van NNX 80208 by bateman_steven, on Flickr

99019 was Mk1 RMB 1870. Again, Farish comes to the rescue with a suitable donor (374-112). Again, the conversion could be done without a 3d print - more roller shutters, some windows filled and re-cut with other windows painted over.

Railtec Models produce transfers for '18 and '19.
