The only times I've known steps at untrack joints have been at wonky baseboard joints or where the track hadn't slotted into the track joiner. Both are just as easy to do with Peco rail joiners.

Typical example of the rail head misalignment - just two random pieces of Unitrack from my box connected and plonked on a flat surface. It's the slop in the Unijoiners which allows it to occur.



It's not massive, some folk won't notice but I'm afraid I do.  Securing the track bed to the board should help. Using alternative rail joiners certainly will.

I don't like seeing stock bouncing around which is one reason I won't mix code 55 and code 80, but Peco points are far from innocent when it comes to causing stock bounce
