It seems these days that the BR blue era is lagging behind. What i'd like to see from Farish is a blue class 47 With headcodes both pre TOPS and TOPS for those modelling the late 60's/early 70's. The body shell is there already, just needs a re-livery in blue. Perhaps this is one for Kernow to produce in a limited run?

Have you thought about undertaking a re-paint yourself or maybe commissioning a third party to do it for you. It'd probably get done a lot quicker than waiting for it to be produced commercially, that's if that ever happens.

All aspects of the blue transition era are generally ignored by manufacturers, not just Farish.

1965-1968 - blue, non TOPS, D prefix
1968-1974 - blue, non TOPS, no D prefix
1974-1976 - blue, TOPS, headcodes

There were quite a few anomalies within the dates above, they are just general indicators

Finding anything blue with non TOPS numbering is uncommon, with the obvious exception of the WR hydraulics. I have a vague recollection that Dapol were going to do a non-TOPS Class 33 in blue, but it never appeared.

TBF - Rapido are planning a couple of pre_TOPS blue Class 45s

To be fair Mike there is a brand new unrebuilt BoB/West Country that is due for release next year from Dapol, EP seen so it is coming. Not too long ago Farish released a sound upgrade to the N Class too and Dapol updated the M7. In recent memory we had the exquisite Farish C Class and "Birdcage" stock too.

Dapol Schools and Terrier remain available if you shop around too.

There has been talk of the Q1 being upgraded to loco drive at some point, although obviously that isn't confirmed.

I guess all modellers of the "Big 4" (or BR derivatives thereof) will, since the demise of Union Mills, see a lot more gaps than there were and some of those locos will never appear RTR again.

As an BR Eastern Region modeller pickings are also quite thin, albeit the new tool V2 from Farish has cheered quite a few people up as has the announcement of a J72 from Dapol and Robinson A5 from Sonic.

A question of being patient I guess..

Regards

I would love to have RTR of these.  Essential for my Scottish themes.  Revolution I think it was, did a survey to establish interest and there was insufficient take up.  They were exploring producing both.  I recall the Class 29 was nearest to being followed up, but even that was short of the required numbers.

I can't see a class 16 emerging as there were only 10 of them and all based at Stratford. The class 15 stands a better chance as there were 44 of them, although I don't think they moved out of Norfolk/Suffolk. Still, the Twins have been done so there's hope yet

That's because the twins came to the Southern region for a bit of sunny weather in the early 1950s.

That's where they got their tan with the white stripes lol.

When they went back up north they turned green.

I've done a post before somewhere here , but a quick recap.

The 16s were all Stratford, but did escape to the SR on cross London freights, even getting there via Liverpool Street (reverse) and then East London line tunnel towards New Cross. At least one also took an advertised excursion from the Cambridge line to the SR. I've seen photos of them in North London on the Cambridge line, but none North of Stratford on the Colchester line, though they may have gone further.

The 15s were mainly ex GER section, but a number were at Finsbury Park for empty stock. One was allocated for at least a short time at Toton, but possibly only on trials. The first ten initial went to Devon Road (Bow, east London). They worked many East Anglia branches. They did take summer excursions, and possibly local passenger, but had no steam heat.

They did double headers to March and also Coltishall. They also worked cross London freight, also a pair at least once on an Adex to Brighton.
