Jack - what is stopping you getting your 'mojo' back? - have a think. Also have a think about what it would be like if you did have your 'mojo' back.

klaatu - before you take the drastic step of dismantling it, imagine what life would be like if you had dismantled it and what life would be like if you motivated and were still working on it. Might help you decide what to do.
Just one Pendolino, give it to me, a beautiful train, from Italy

Hi Jack,

As already mentioned we all get bored and fed up with out layouts. My first layout was a right pain because I was still learning and wanted everything on it. Nothing would really work and I would leave it for weeks at a time. After trearing that one up and the one after that I'm quite happy with my current setup. Basically its 5 loops with several sidings and I can run 5 trains at a time, nothing fancy.

I still go through stages of not wanting to do anything because I simply can't be bothered. I find this Forum very motivating. I see others peoples layouts and think, I can use that on my layout or I can adapt that to this. I try to vary what I do in order to keep the interest up. For a while I did nothing but trucks, then some layout work, then some buildings and now I'm working on a number of caboose.

There are a couple of areas on the layout that are blank and I don't have a clue as to what I'm going to put there. Yet there are areas that I'm going to dismantle and rebuild because I know excatly what I want there. When I get around to it.

'Mojo' will return. He is just having a little nap because it's hard work building a railroad.

I think in my case maybe I need a change of scale. To be honest I've never really been comfortable with N.

Jack

Thanks for all your thoughts. It is true that there is wisdom in a multitude of councillors.

Unlike klaatu, the thought of selling up and moving up a scale for me is not an option. The thought of having those monster 00's in the house... as Frankie Howard used to say "No No No and thrice No!" For me N gauge Rules!!

These are plans for Chapel Fields Mk3, where you see a cross it's a double slip. Not all straight track is shown 'cos I ran out of track pieces using the trial version. The proposed DMU shed isn't shown either for the same reason. There as been a few minor tweaks made from where I've drawn it out full scale on my base board

I've always wanted to run full length HST's and from when I first saw Chris's "Old Warren" I've fancied a TMD too.

If I'm honest with myself I think its the thought that this is my 3rd attempt and will I be happy with this one. As I've planned to change from Code 80 to 55 and include eight double slips (at £31 each) the thoughts of "Will I be happy with Mk3?" keeps creeping in. (Oh I've rethought those d/s's many times).

Thanks again one and all for your words of wisdom, there is hope and I can see a large order heading for Liverpool soon.

That looks like a good plan. I think running full length trains on that size layout is one ofthe BIG plusses for N gauge.  I think my 2+8 HST looks great and i think you will be pleased you made that size station.  The double slips should make the yard really good fun to drive round... I assume you are going for DCC and motorizing the pointwork.
