Hi all!

I know that the 4-6-0 might not be right for my branch line Yorkshire WW2 layout, but...
It's a British loco! For next to nothing! In Sweden!

Can I remodel this to look like it would fit? I know it's a BR model, but if I use it as a donor chassi?

Dr Al

Looks very like the original over-scale Manor that should have been recalled....

Cheers,
Alan

OK so it's a GWR loco in later BR livery.  What loco would you want to use the chassis for, remembering it's loco drive but shaft driven from the motor in the tender so the two halves really need to stay together. Otherwise you'll have to create a whole new tender and motor mount etc.

As Al says the first batch of the Ixion Manor were found to be over-scale and were recalled. The model was re-tooled.  The revised version was later taken over by Dapol.

Apply rule #1!!!

Mask treachourous parts using thin plates simulating partial armour. Apply  a random camouflage schema using black  and dark greys. And if somebody dares to ask... then it is a US test loco...

American locos are bigger, so the oversize is easily explained.

The B8 seems to be a possibility, a "what if" for the war effort.

Tat one has a tender as well, so hopefully it might work?

What about an LNER A5 4-6-2?
https://www.lner.info/locos/A/a5.php

Body availble on Shapeways by Recreation21.

Needs a bit more work, you have to make the rear pony truck and find a way to mount the motor in the loco.
And needs some Investigation re wheel spacing etc. to check if the mechanism will fit in the body and will look ok.

If I can make it work, the A6 seems more appropriate. I'll have to figure out how to move the motor, and it probably won't look perfect, but it would be something to run.

I placed the minimum bid, and got it. It will be here some day next week. This will give me a chance to "look under the bonnet" of a loco, take it apart and so on.

400 kr is about £34, not a bad price if it's in good condition!

It arrived today. Wow! It's so pretty, like new, in the original box, with the instructions and two small zip-lock bags with men and detailing bits (I guess).

It's the Ixion Torquay Manor, as I put in the first post. Used, but looks new. I haven't tested how it runs yet, but I figure it will work like a charm after I've oiled it as the instructions say. Now I just have to decide what to convert it to.

AlexanderJesse

Why convert it? ... say it's an american prototype/test mule

An American prototype on a branch line in north Yorkshire during WW2? :confused2: Can't see how that would fit... not really.

Not so ridiculous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USATC_S160_Class

the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway still has one I think.

There was also an 0-6-0 tank engine sent over from the US for wartime work, so not entirely unbelievable another loco type might've made it across for testing.
