Sorry about the odd topic heading.

I don't know if this is something that can happen or not, so I'm just going to ask.

Assume, that the right RTR loco for my LNER railway, comes on the market used in BR livery. How hard would it to change it?

Also... not all RTR locos and coaches are available in the right livery. Would there be a substitute livery I can buy, and then repaint it to LNER, or are all different when they make them?

I know that in real life, a loco might have started their life in one livery, then be sold and repainted, and then taken over by BR and repainted again. That's why I'm hoping that I can expand on what I can buy, if all it needs is a new livery.

If it is an ex- LNER type in BR livery, that depends mainly on your painting skills... Most of the lining and lettering livery elements are available as waterslide transfers from either Fox Transfers or ModelMaster.

In the UK all the railway companies had their own individual designs and style. There weren't the outside builders selling standard designs to several railways, so if you want to maintain some accuracy you couldn't for example repaint a GWR loco in LNER livery.

Another option would be to pay someone to do the repainting, I think there are several forum members who offer such services.

Another alternative is vinyl overlays. Real life trains use these as well these days.

https://electrarail.co.uk/ one of the group advertisers, do a range of vinyls and produces them himself, so may well produce to order.

vinyls work well for modern DMUs, but I suspect will be extremely challenging both to design and fit for a steam loco...

NTrain

my bad. I was thinking of the complete train and missed that it was the loco only.............................

Solvite wallpapered a Black 5 in the late '60s or early '70s - but I don't know if the paper was vinyl or not  ;)

Found an ancient thread on the lner encylopedia and there is an interesting conversion of a Dapol M7 into an lner loco. Probably not completely accurate but very useful on a branch line...

@Reptilian Feline I can only echo a previous post and recommend Ozymandias on this form. You do need to be patient (really patient) as his talents are very sought after. Have a look here:

I can explain it to you...

...but I can't understand it for you.

P.S. His waiting list does tend to be cluttered up with scrappy ol' Warships.

I came across that one, and then lost it, when I was looking for some info on LNER. Thanks!

Ozymandias does fine work. Shows that it's possible.

It's nice to know that it's possible. I hope Fox transfers ship to Sweden.
If I find the right loco in the wrong livery, I'll start by reliver it, then do the weathering. It wouldn't be the first time I paint tiny details on tiny models.

Reptilian Feline

I had a look at the lner.info page, and the liveries listed. Turns out that my years, 1942-45 all liveries on locos were changed to black, no stripes, and LNER changed to NE. No lining for carriages and also NE instead of LNER, and roofs grey. Looks like whatever I get, a small change has to be made.
