Hmm...the white just does not work around the HST side windows. A little bit more creativity is needed, rather than slavishly trying to reproduce a 1960s livery.

Will be interesting to see how they comply with GM RT 2131 without a yellow end.

There are ways.......

I thought It was fairly binary; if you had suitable daytime headlights then no yellow panel is required. As has already been discussed, allegedly they’re making the modifications.

Or... it’s an artist’s impression and it will actually have yellow ends!

Nope, generally, frontal lighting has to comply with the Loc and Pas TSI , otherwise yellow ends are “mandated” as per clause 1.2.3.5 of GM RT 2131.

However, there is also a route using the CSM-RA (Common Safety Method for Risk Assessment) regs to risk assess yourself out of having yellow ends if you can show you manage the risk, and your lighting doesn’t necessarily need to meet the TSI (older stuff often doesn’t).

Appendix D and E of 2131 has all the info.

A fireman who works for them told me that the headlights were going to be changed specifically so that they don't need yellow ends.
Cheers Colin

There are exceptions otherwise Tornado's smoke box door would have to be yellow  :sick2:

Steam locos are a special case, clause 3.7 of 2131 applies.

Thanks . It's a little technical for some to follow without a link or a source of information referring to the manual. Anyway we shall wait until the livery is out

Haha, yes that would be horrific!

I assumed there was a ‘grandfather rights’ type situation, where stock that didn’t have yellow panels originally didn’t need them retrofitting. Tornado is obviously a bit of an oddity in that respect.

Chris, the document MB refers to is here. Actually quite interesting. I’m amused that trains have hazard lights, just like a motor vehicle.

Nick. Thanks I've been at work today, brains are firmly fixed elsewhere. That link is not bed time reading. And to the point I cannot see Tornado having her smokebox door painted other than what it is. Two headlights built into the hst powercar will do, the rear most being illuminated ted as if it were to be treated as tail lamps

I can imagine. Will try and get out to see the train. However, lets wait until the hst herself is painted and out for us all to see

I wonder how long until it's announced by Dapol?
