Hi Dave,
i did forget to mention we have a little hobby shop at Kurri Kurri, Hunter valley model railways supplies. Ivans a top bloke and yes you can call in and have a chat. he belongs to the local model club at maitland and is very very good at building stone viaducts and he loves his br stuff. I recently bought a gaugemaster combi off him for i think was A$60 which is only about 10 dearer then the uk.(big sydney shop had them for 45 but it had no power supply unit even though box showed it did very misleading) he attends shows and both my mum and me bought items when he was there. he is only a little guy compared to the big one in newcastle but if you ask for something at least he will get it for you and at a realistic price unlike some. and he has heaps of n gauge

Sounds like a great little shop, the only NSW retailer that I bought stuff from when he used to visit the Brisbane Model Train Show was Woodpecker, I found he was cheaper than some of the retailers up here.
Keep on Smiling
Dave.

Hi Dave,

woodpecker is still around. Im building a 00 gauge british for a mate and sent him out there to get some incline sets as they were heaps cheaper, other item not so. we also have vic barnes at newcastle he is a rail shop so no toy trains more specialist stuff i bought my peco track from him again price ok and he has been around 50yrs i think. When i was a kid mum would take us by train to newcatle where we would go to angus and robertson book store in hunter street it was a huge three storey building and had the best store dept on all of level three incl a great train section mum would buy trains for me from there i still have my first fleischman 040 loco which still has the sticker on the case for A$20 and the carriages that went with it they would have to be at 30yrs old and still run great a scotish lady ran it and she knew her stuff a great childhood memory.

I popped into a a shop in Plymouth a weekend or two ago when i walked in the chap was sat with his feet up on the counter reading the paper i had a look round the shop mostly 00 stuff he then showed me his N range which consisted of a class 37 apparently new but the box was very battered and around 6 assorted trucks deffinately wont be going in again.

Luckily i live around 3/4 of an hour from buffers and my local shops are ok for odd bits but as i rc model i use them mainly for wood metal etc
