Hi Phil

The 12v/5A DC power supplies are all going to be pretty chunky. You could look at generic power supplies for things like laptops, there's a wide range of those. You might find something smaller if you look for supplies designed for CCTV/LED Strip Lights. I'm not sure how they compare in size with the link posted to the MERG website; probably much the same size, I'm guessing.

There's quite a selection on eBay and Amazon, here in the US they go for around $10.

How much current do you need, and how bigs too big?
Hi Steve,

The MERG one is 12v at 5A

It is physically larger than my laptop supply which is 19v at 5a output.

The control panel for the MPD is 11" by 3" by 1" deep.

Apart from the fact I didn't want to have mains into the control panel, the power pack is thicker than the control panel!

Thanks
Phil H

In true boge it yerself style,12V  5A DC out, anything from 15-40v AC input .circuit board is 40mm x 40mm and will set you back around $5 for 10,components come in at around 3.50 from lcsc. The voltage regulator will need at heatsink,or bolted to a decenr lump of metal.

Hi there,

OK - then it will depend on what the actual current demand of the Merg kit is.

The LM7812 is rated at 1.5A max.

Once I build the kit I will test to see what the current draw is.

Thanks

It is if you buy a TI, STM or the other well known brand, other lesser known manufacturers  rate them for less, and then you've the chinese floor sweeping brands that claim the earth but are only good for making smoke
