chipping a Dapol 26
« on: May 09, 2020, 05:49:38 PM »
Hi ventured into the world of DCC and ordered a NCE powercab. Also I purchased a Dapol class 26 before deciding on DCC. Has anyone chipped the class 26 is there anything I should be aware of?

Hi,

It has a Next 18 socket, so buy a Zimo MX618N18, remove the body, remove the blanking plug, and plug in the Zimo decoder and you're done.

Zimo make some of the best decoders out there and as they can be had for 20quid it's not worth buying anything else IMHO.

Check the instructions for the loco, it should tell you if and what DCC socket it has?   I know John says Next18 but was the model around before Dapol adopted Next18?  (I don't know, not my area of interest)

Hi,

The Dapol website says Next18, but I don't know enough about the CL26 to be definitive.

Dapol have gone from no DCC, to DCC 6 pin to DCC Next18 in their CL66's.

If it does have a 6 pin socket then get the Zimo MX617N instead.
