@Euston   oh that is disappointing.   Other than the damage does it look like it's been run? dirty wheels etc. ?
Just thinking, if they offer a large partial refund then might still be worth it, the panto and things can be fixed.  How bad is the scratch?  Have you got the missing nose cone?

Wheels look like new like it has never been run before

And the scratch is about half a cm

I have sent them a message with pics so hopefully they reply soon

Is it difficult to repair the pantograph, as it looks twisted

Cheers

@Euston   I've fixed pantos like that before on second hand locos, sometimes it happens if a panto rides off the wire on my layout or a loco isn't put in its box properly.

As long as all the bits are there it's just a case of hooking the secondary link back onto the U of the panto, and getting the little loops back onto the man link using thin pliers.

Have you got the end of the nose cone?

Ah ok thanks 👍

Yes nose cone is there I put it back together as had to realign the plastic lights too (have not touched the pantograph tho)

For £165 tho, I'm not very happy with this, so I'm going to wait and see what the company has to say

Either a substantial discount or a replacement/refund

In your opinion ntpntpntp (I know it's difficult just by looking at pics and reading what I have said)

In its current condition, what value would you say it has ?

Many thanks

@Euston  well, you say it does appear to be from a new/unused set, just suffered some damage.  I'd probably want them to refund  £50 ish, for the disappointment and inconvenience of having to get it fixed, plus the scratch.  You could argue maybe more than £50 as with the power car damaged the rest of the set is useless.

Otherwise it goes back and they refund you the lot plus return postage.

I've only ever had this once with a German seller, I bought a Minitrix  "Der Adler set" and it arrived with a few of the steps broken off the coaches. It was packed correctly but I think it really could have done with a layer of tissue or something around the models to totally prevent sliding around.   They offered a reasonable percentage off which I accepted as I knew I could glue the steps back on.

Of course not long after I found and bought the "posh" wooden box version of the Der Adler set cheaper anyway, so I have two sets. I'll keep the posh one for display and run the other set, probably look into upgrading the mechanism as it's a bit noisy  :)

@ntpntpntp

Thanks, £50 seems reasonable, just hope the pantograph can be repaired

Besides they may well refuse that and ask for it to be returned, which is fine

That was good you managed to fix your loco and get a part refund, tho I have no idea of the loco you are talking about, I'm sure it's very nice especially it it come in a posh wooden box

@Euston   Der Adler - "Eagle"  was Germany's first commercial loco.  Sort of the same fame as our "Rocket", and indeed was supplied by Stephenson.

There are two of the wooden box sets on UK ebay, but the asking price is way too much at £650 each which is getting on for 3x the usual going rate, and indeed mine cost me something like £110 - I snapped that up of course!  :D

Wow nice bargain 👍

And yes £650 is absurd

Nothing surprises me with eBay tho , only a day or two ago, a dapol class 56 largo logo N gauge went for £226 absolute madness

It was quite funny really, I'd bought the basic set from Germany and it arrived with it's little problems and then I spotted the box set had just appeared on UK ebay. It was one of the rare occasions when I actually consulted mrs ntpntpntp and said "I know I've just bought this set, but this absolute bargain has just appeared..... ok dear?"   Normally I just buy my toys and don't involve her

Here you go, watch some trains going by while you wait for things to be sorted and purchases to arrive  :)   There are ICE 1 sets, ICE 2 sets, push-pull passenger services, freight,  loco depot movements etc.
