Peckett C 0-6-0 (Inside Cylinders)
« on: April 09, 2020, 11:21:04 AM »
My 3D Peckett projects to date have all been about re-using my Minitrix 0-6-0 2F/T3 chasses under prototypes that were much more common in UK industrial settings. The primitive (but cheap, reliable, available ....) outside-cylinder chassis isn't convincing in closeup, but running under an attractive (distractive?) body on the layout suits me fine.

A couple of people, including @mk1gtstu , have taken Dremels to my 3D prints in order to mount them on more modern mechanisms. Most of those mechanisms represent inside cylinder prototypes, but whilst most Pecketts sported their cylinders outside the frames (easy to maintain), there were some inside-cylindered (less vulnerable to collision in restricted spaces) examples.

The Class C was basically an inside cylindered Class B. Launched in 1905 alongside the B2, several of these saw service across the UK, including Peckett 1068, "Hesketh" which worked at Madeley and other collieries in Staffordshire from 1905 for at least 50 years. It is pictured out-of-use in 1965.

So, I've been inspired to re-design my B2 body-shell to fit a Farish 03/04 chassis. I began by designing a blank to represent the chassis, and trying that for size:

and in "X-Ray" mode:

I think this is going to work out Ok - Watch this space!

OK, well that's now done and available on Shapeways

I wouldn't normally offer something there until I'd received and finished an example for myself, but this is a well established design that's been cut-away. I'm confident that with a little fettling it will be fine.
