I agree widening the scope would help avoid topics popping up all over the place but 'coupling topics' might attract the wrong audience :uneasy:

I was joking! I could have said that 'n gaugers' are always coupling, or 'n gaugers' have small ones.  ;)

I concur - a board entitled "couplings" would be helpful.

However, it would probably have to be moved out of the product reviews section; but do we really need a product reviews section, rather than a type of product discussion section that includes reviews? Perhaps the couplings board could have a sub-board of reviews, as with all the other boards that are currently product review boards of one sort or another?

Any reorganisation or re-naming would have to leave the resulting overall arrangement coherent and consistent, otherwise it will make things harder, not easier, to navigate overall.

where would you like a "Couplings " topic to go? - N gauge discussion?

I agree - it's not just couplings. Most of the other 'Review' categories contain many threads which aren't reviews at all but topics regarding specific products. Why not just remove the word 'Reviews' from everything except books and DVDs? A review of, say, a new locomotive could still go where it is now but naming the section 'Locos and Rolling Stock' would more accurately reflect what it contains.

Cheers,

Chris

I’d get rid of as many subsections as absolutely possible, we definitely dont need a sub forum of the coupling sub forum to cover reviews.

We’re on the way to one thread per forum! There are already examples.

The problem with removing “reviews” from that section is that that the nullifies the “N Gauge Discussion” forum. Maybe that should also be removed, and you can only post in the sub forum appropriate to your topic!  :confused1:

am I unusual in only ever using “all unread posts”?

Going off topic to answer that one - no. I only ever use 'Show all unread posts'

Me too when browsing!

Only time I ever go through the menus to reach sub-forums is if I'm searching for something specific in an old topic, and for that a sensible hierarchy with as few levels of sub-fora as practical is easiest... actual names are less important than the structure... All provided that people use them properly of course...
