When I was over there a couple of years ago I was a 7/11 junky.... mainly for cans of mighty fine Japanese beer  :beers:

You do your shopping late, Ian!  ;D

If he did it a bit earlier there may be more stuff on the shelves eh?

Indeed, the mere fact that there is something available that late in the evening and not being fought over by panicking masses is a positive sign.

The place is about 3 minutes away by bicycle and I usually pop by once or twice a week when it's later and quieter.

when i was in Japan a few years ago 7/11 was the only place which had ATM's for foreign cards to withdraw any cash.

Anyway, I hope Tom Hanks and his missus are stocked up, cos they're going to be in Australia a bit longer than they expected  :worried:

If they are feeling a little bummed out about it, I am more than willing to sacrifice myself and swap the Gold Coast for Crewe!!
Mechanical issues can be solved with a hammer and electrical problems can be solved with a screw driver. Beyond that it's verbal abuse which makes trains work!!

I fail to see where the toilet roll bit comes into the equation, they say the virus affects your respiratory system gives you a cough and a high temperature, there's no mention of diarrhoea

The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.

So if people are buying bog roles to wipe snotty noses they will irritate an already sore nose as bog roll is not the same soft feel as facial tissue. Also since toilet paper is made to dissolve when exposed to moisture so it breaks up easily, people risk a hand full of snot and mushy paper!  :D

Apparently there were reports that John Travolta had the virus, but no, it was just Saturday night fever, and he's stayin alive, stayin alive  ;)
I heard that somewhere else - must have gone viral!   :sorrysign:

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly.

Well meanwhile in Italy.

We have a small shop / bar here in the village seperated by a door in the shop and both Bar and shop have an entrance.
With the directive the door to the bar was shuttered and locked, as I got to the shop a policeman arrived.  He was asked what he was doing and replied that he was checking to see that the law was being applied.  He then walked into the Bar and got a drink ...   Italians love em.
Stir crazy ? not yet..

local Tesco's haven't had any for over a week...

just hope that when stocks come in, prices drop, and all the greedy  :censored: are out of pocket.

been trying to get ONE bag for a week, but the idiots have stopped any normal shopper from getting any.
same with toilet rolls, nil stock again today, though tissues are beginning to come back into stock.

still can't understand the empty dogfood shelves  :hmmm:

Doc Pye

Just came back from Costco run today here in London and they ran out of TP (which they limited purchases), and more importantly, my favorite Skippy Peanut Butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for dog food running out, I wasn't aware of that one but perhaps they are trying to fatten up the little dogs for din-dins! ;)

Seriously, this 'panic' is being caused by a lot of irresponsible people, and they should be held to account. If you yell 'fire' in a crowded theater (and there is no real fire) then you are inciting panic!

I am sure we will all get through this 'pandemic' and hopefully will come out the other end better. Sadly, people have died and others will too, but that happens every day. It is life. Not trying to downplay it at all but one has to look at things as they are. So everyone stay healthy and calm!

One last note, sadly I won't be going to the show at Aly Pally, which I think will get cancelled due to all of this. It is just a show...there will be others. :)

On a serious note.  I was just listening to the PM + chief medical officer press conference.  The CMO stated that the Covid19 was a 5-7 day illness with cough, sore throat and flu symptoms and then it goes away.  However for some people there is then an immune reaction.

I'm not a doctor but that sounds like an autoimmune reaction where its the bodies own defences do you in, and could be why younger people with a less developed immune system are less affected.

Doc Pye

For a person to overcome a virus your body needs to create effective antibodies to combat it. Hence, if you get the virus, recover from it, then your chances are good of not having a relapse of the same virus. You will note I say 'same virus', as viruses often mutate as they get passed around, so there is a chance of a person previously infected catching a mutated version of the virus. It has been stated by Frau Merkel that as a 'worse case scenario' that 40-60% of the global population will be infected at some point. In my opinion, and it is just that, I think this is rather high. However, only time will tell.

The real problem if this particular virus is for those that have underlying health issues, notably respiratory ones. So best to be careful and take all preventative steps to avoid being infected.
