It's taken many, many years
« on: January 23, 2020, 12:56:45 PM »
I've made it! House all fully renovated, that took 25+ years, garden all sorted, attic room renovated and decorated and train tables built and ready to go. And I'm only 63!

I've been "collecting" N gauge for must be 30+ years and had many forays into building a table top layout only to be thwarted by life! Tables were dismantled and wait to start again.

I really cannot think of anything that should hold me up now. I've had a browse of the forum and I'm looking forward to asking loads and loads of questions!

Hi Geoff,  :claphappy:,

Welcome aboard. I have so many obstacles in my way so really glad for you that yours have gone.

Looking forward to your build and let us know of your plans please. Also what have you got in your collection?

Thought I'd start the noseyness.

Have fun with the layout and on here.

Cheers, weave  :beers:

Welcome Geoff.

Glad all your obstacles are out of the way.
Does that mean that you are retired?    If so, enjoy, Iíve loved every moment of it.
Can I ask what area and era you intend to model please?

Good luck

Martin

Hi Geoff and welcome to the forum. When you are ready, ask your questions as there are plenty of talented and knowledgeable people here.

Yes I am retired, or to put it another way, working full time on stuff I want to do but not being paid!

The problem I have with any particular era is that I like them all. So my plan is a layout that has a bit of everything from Stephensons Rocket to Pendelino. Not that I have a Stephensons Rocket model, but you get my drift. It's
the modelling aspect that I like. Trains, planes & automobiles.  :)

Cheers

I've built a "modular" table system for the layout. It was 3.0m x 2.1m with a hole in the middle to get to things. But having installed it I realised that I couldn't get the cupboard doors in the room open! So it's now 2.85m x 2.1m.  :)

My collection? 30 years of Christmas, birthday and various spontaneous buys. I am enjoying just getting it all out at the moment and trying to remember when it was all bought. It's all a real mish mash, but it's
all things that I liked and took my eye and a lot of memories.

How the heck have you managed that? I find that before I've got all the way around, the first bits are in need of doing again!

LOL, it has in fact been "fully renovated" 3 times over that 25 years! But I've just found out about a style called "shabby chic" which seems to be fully compatible with my desire to get on with my model railway
