Piko 40501 Class 221
« on: December 11, 2019, 11:51:56 AM »
Hi,

I've seen what seems a bargain on this loco for €172.99 on Modellbahnshop-lippe
(https://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/Diesel+Locomotive/Diesel+Locomotive/Piko-40501/gb/modell_311052.html).

It comes with nice details, sound etc.  Are Piko are good reliable brand?  The only locos I have are from Lilliput, Minitrix, Fleischmann and one from Hobbytrain (which I find very nice).

Thanks
Ferg

I have been impressed with the modern production Piko locos and multiple units that I have (they are nothing at all like the old cheap N models that Piko made in the 60s - 80s).    They seem to be as good as the other European N scale brands, but of course the models have not been around for decades like some of the old proven Fleischmann, Minitrix etc. so we don't know the long-term quality yet.

It's been getting generally good reviews on the German 1zu160 forum. I have the analogue version arriving shortly, I hope, which will be my first n gauge Piko locomotive. And yes, Piko are well thought of these days.

Yes I agree with all the previous comments. I've only got 3 Piko locos but all run equally as well as (if not better than :D ) those from the more well known manufacturers. The build quality also appears to be as good as does the level of detail. My most recent Piko purchase is the RBe540 with sound and I'm really pleased with it.
