Thanks Paddy - I think the definition of details around the top of the tank (and even rivets on the anchor) show what Smoothest Fine Detail Plastic can achieve. Yes, there's some work involved to get a good finish, but compared with what I could scratch build with plastic card and tube, there's no comparison.

Just about there now with the 20T tanks.

The SMBP example has a Peco ladder fitted - I might replace this with something finer later. Both will be matt varnished when the weather's better.

OK, well that's a wrap for the SMBP 20T anchor-mounted tank:

On the left, a Peco RTR equivalent, and to the right a similarly proportioned Minitrix Class A.

I've enjoyed designing and building these austerity tanks which replaced many worn out earlier designs from WW2 until the introduction of air braked stock in the late 1960s.

It's been an enjoyable and enlightening ride.

Thank you.

Have ordered a set of each different type and a wee Peckett thrown in for good measure - will give me something to do when they arrive in the New Year :)

Thank you Andrew!

As a "maker" I know you'll enjoy preparing and finishing these! No end of liveries available of course with transfers from Robbie, Fox and the NGS. You'll know the Paul Bartlett site, I'm sure, but  I've found these books a treasure trove too for older examples:

British Railway Wagons: Rail tanks

British Railway Private Owner Tank Wagons

Petroleum Rail Tank Wagons of Britain

Oil on the Rails

Good luck!
