Smoothing Balsa Wood - Help Needed
« on: May 12, 2019, 09:13:17 PM »
I have some Retaining  walls to install but they are not quite tall enough.

I also have some strips of Balsa wood that would be just right to form footings or capping for the wall making it the required height.

However, the Balsa isnít smooth enough to give an acceptable finish.

I vaguely remember there used to be a some sort of smoothing compound made to do this.

Can anyone help me with the Trade name of this compound perhaps with an idea where I might get it?

It is called sanding sealer, basically aircraft dope and talcum powder in the old days, now new-fangled microballons.
Thinking about it wrap in aircraft tissue paper and dope would give a smooth surface.

You need to use this on Osborn's Arch laser kits. to control the wood grain standing up.
