Looking through our WTT we have 3 ballast empties, we have photos to suggest that any open wagon was put in a rake to run out to Meldon, but with 20 Sealions/ Seacows half loaded, basically these shouldn't be Olive green for my timeframe BUT I'm not prepared to ruin these by stripping and painting as these cost me more money then my 15 revolutioN Regent class B tanks  :o so my plan is to get a couple of NGS wagon kits when they are back in stock and build these as SR Walrus in black, other then Paul Bartletts site does anyone know of any information relating to these wagons??

It is suggested BR copied them just put GWR bogies on to make the Sealion/Seacow and the end platforms were narrower by about 2mm so think that's acceptable to ignore!

I thought we had a book on SR wagons in the library but that seems to be wishful thinking, so if any of you can offer any information on these I would appreciate it, then just sit tight for the NGS to re-release the kits.

Hi,

I suggest you invest in a copy of "An Illustrated History of Southern Wagons Volume 4" This has a chapter dealing with Ballast Wagons and traces the history of these wagons back to 1928 and although it goes back to the LSWR and 1903 this should be enough to give a good background of the details with b/w photos and drawings to illustrate.
