Thank you Michael,

On a small scale (quite literally :D) it's a dung heap and washing lines.

Then it's the matching barn typical of same Schwyz region (designs done and first parts cut).

And then it's the extension to the right side of the layout with a goods shed/area. Plucking up courage to face B&Q!

Cheers
Matt

That sounds like fun (except for the dung heap, perhaps :worried:)
I'm looking forward to your next updates.

Best,
Michael

Hi Matt. I didn't realise that both your sets had printing faults. I find that really unusual. When there is a faulty batch of models they tend to get distributed around during the packing process.
I've got a set of the Rigips Silo Wagons on order at the moment. Will have to inspect them closely when they arrive. :hmmm:

Yes I found it very strange too! Let me know about you Rigips Wagons!

Matt

The Rigips gypsum silos have arrived Matt. I've been over them with a magnifying glass and pleased to say they are fine. Fleischmann have even incorporated some of the slight detail differences that exist between these and the Jura Cement wagons. The lettering appears to match that seen on the real thing with German and French language text on opposite sides.

Those look good John, now I'm highly envious.

I was going to take some analytical shots of my wagons to send to Fleischmann.

I've just been to B&Q for timer for the Eastern end extension, but they had run out of the stuff I need, they are pretty low on timber stock.

That's a nuisance Matt. :(
Must be because of all the projects people have been doing during the lockdown.

Yes good point RE B&Q. I may have to go to their super big store a few miles further away.

RE Font size difference on cement wagons, I've sent my photo to Fleischmann with an explanation, let's see what happens!

Working on the washing diorama... nice to use some brighter colours after all the green/grey/brown on the buildings/landscape!

Nice one, Matt. Is it a kit?

Also good luck with Fleischmann. Hope they send you a satisfying reply...

Best,
Michael

Here we have the much talked about right-side layout extension (for goods area). Went to a larger B&Q and managed to get the timber needed this time!

As it's an irregular shape, the idea is creating the sort of shelf shown below and screwing this to the layout. Then the final track plan will be drawn on, allowing the precise shape of the 'shelf' to be known. It can then be dismantled, the ply cut exactly and then assembled in the new shape, in line with how the rest of the layout baseboard has been done.

I'm still a little unsure when it comes to track laying how to handle the bit where the rails cross over. I envisage removing this extension only for home moving and stuff like that, ie. once in a blue moon.

I'm thinking I need a short straight crossing over which then gets sawn across the junction of the extension. With rail ends soldered to screws?

Yeah, brass screws would be my approach because that's how I've always done it and it works for me  ;)

The way I do it with Peco track is to remove about an inch of sleepers from the middle of the piece that will cross the join, mark two lines (the rails) and fit 4 screws - two either side of the board join. Adjust the screws until they support the rails correctly, solder and then cut the rails with a razor saw so the gap is as narrow as possible.  Sleepers can hen be replaced.

As you're using Fleischmann track you'll need to work out how to remove some sleepers and ballast from the middle without totally destroying it.
