Welcome to the forum, Chris-Jam

There are some nosy people about, so a bit in the 'Introduction' thread would be appreciated.

I resemble that remark

G'day from Australia, Ian, and welcome to the NGF!

Just had a look at your other post, and it sounds like you've made a good start.

It certainly helps having a partner who is also interested!!  :beers:

Returning to a childhood passion (when it was chunky monkeys from Lionels and Marxs and anything I could get hands on), I feel like I'm facing a learning curve that looks more like a wall. Also, feeling a tad isolated as there are no clubs or train shops nearby, with the closest shows 400 km away. And, though living in Canada, I'm in love with British railways (with a slight crush on German-Austrian lines). Fortunately, the local bookstore stocks some British mags... but I doubt they'd condone my lurking about on a daily basis, waiting for someone to pick one up so that I could run up and go: "Hey, are you into trains?" So, grateful for resources like this site.

Boy! Much has changed in the hobby. And though tons available for HO/OO, I've found that N punches well above its weight and gives me more opportunities for space available. Currently planning my layout using RailModeller Pro on my Mac while wrapping my head around DCC. Baby steps... baby steps...

Hey all
I am a complete newbie to this hobby, but need something to keep me occupied during my later years. I have always been interested in trains and train sets, but the hobby always seemed to be out of reach for a variety of reasons.
I now find myself with time on my hands and have finally decided to take the plunge. Due to space limitations I have decided to go for a basic 4x2 base and an N gauge setup. I understand this would seriously restrict what I can achieve, but its more affordable for starters.

I haven't decided weather to buy a starter set and build from there, or start with a track only set and add the other components.
I am sure I will be asking lots of questions.
Anyway, thanks for allowing me into the forum.

Mark

Welcome aboard Mark!
We are indebted to those soldiers who served with courage and distinction to bring peace to Northern Ireland, UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said. The welfare of our former service personnel is of the utmost importance.
