Wrexham & Shropshire Coaches

I have just got a Class 67 Wrexham & Shropshire and after the coaches for it. The usual places I checked but nothing, does anyone know where I can get some Mk3 Wrexham & Shropshire coaches from?

Yeah they're long out of stock and command quite a premium second hand. They do come up though.

diod dapol not manufacture them ? i did think of emailling a certain supplier in cheshire / merseyside, but thinking could one not use mk 3s stock, then

dvt plus 2 mk3 second opens , 1 first class oen after a converted mk 3 trailer buffet - farish mk3s and use vinyls / overlays that manfacturers produce. from the photo its looks like cargo - d stock, ex wcml br / virgin stock but this would be before 2011 when cargo d was placed into administration. i would use the net to find farish mk 3 suppliers the dvt was / is a dapol model but the e word internet purchasing site may help or an exhibition trader may help

Wrexham & Shropshire started out with 3-car Mk3 rakes consisting of 2xTSO and 1xRFM (which contained the buffet and first class). The coaches were hired in from the now defunct Cargo-D, and were all painted in BR blue and grey, mostly with 'Wrexham & Shropshire' branding added midway along the bodyside. Initially top and tail Class 67s were used. Once the DVTs had been refurbished, the sets became push-pull with a 67 at one end and the DVT at the other.

The Cargo-D coaches remained in use for quite a while as Wrexham & Shropshire's own coaches were much delayed in coming off of refurbishment. Initially the four rakes consisted of 2xTSO and 1xRFM, but this was later extended by an additional TSO. The refurbished TSOs had no significant changes and retained the original seats, but were fully repainted and with all new seat covers, etc. The RFMs were significantly altered, with the kitchen shrunk, the counter moved from the side to the end, a disabled toilet fitted at the other end of the carriage, and all new seating fitted. There is no correct model of this, nor likely to be given that only four of them received this work.

Initially various 67s appeared, but when the DVTs arrived the locos were largely restricted to those with remote fire apparatus as nobody would be in them when pushing (any 67 can work with an AAR DVT, but if they don't have the fire equipment a driver or fitter has to ride in the loco). The dedicated fleet consisted of 67012-15 initially. These four were later joined by 67010. All of these were painted in the silver and grey livery. Other locos which had received the modifications subsequently were sometimes used - 67018 in its current bright red livery appeared often, as towards the end did 67001, still in EWS.

When Wrexham & Shropshire ceased operating, the whole lot was transferred to Chiltern. The rakes were all subsequently extended to six coaches (two extra TSOs), and fitted with plug doors. The 67s were also replaced with 68s in due course.

As regards N-gauge models, Dapol are the manufacturer to look at (you could use Farish Mk3s and paint or vinyl them, but they aren't as good as the Dapol ones).

Dapol have produced the following:
67010 (dummy, sold directly by Wrehxam & Shropshire on their trains)
67012 (dummy, sold directly by Wrehxam & Shropshire on their trains)

A pack with 67013, DVT and 2xTSO
A pack of TSO and RFM
The coaches all have a slightly incorrect livery - due to them being produced before the real ones appeared using the initial painting diagrams, which were changed slightly before the real ones appeared. THe RFM is the standard model, so the window arrangement is not correct.

67014 (the only one produced after Wrexham & Shropshire folded - still available in shops)

All of the above, apart from the 67014 model, are now hard to find and tend to go for high prices on ebay. If you want models readily available, the standard blue/grey Mk3s are easy enough to find and ideally would need Wrexham & Shropshire branding added, although some did appear without. For the other end of the set, another 67 is probably the best option as you are unlikely to find a DVT on its own - dummy 67s in EWS livery appear on ebay periodically; they would be a reasonable option.

They don't seem to have the RFM (which is 2P-005-011), numbered 10229 - shouldn't be difficult to find though. Note that you want coaches with numbers beginning with a 1 (i.e. 12xxx for TSOs, 10xxx for RFM) - those beginning with a 4 are HST trailers and don't have buffers.

For a dummy 67, try ebay or see if Hattons have a second-hand one (they list their second-hand models on their main site).

If you want the coaches in Wrexham & Shropshire livery, it's a case of watching ebay - they don't come up often, normally only in the sets they came in, and sell for a lot.

Could do on blue/grey ones. The issue with the full WS livery is that it needs a DVT, and they aren't easy to get hold of - in any livery.

I don't think there are any DVTs in recent production, so ebay or other second-hand outlets are probably the only option for them - hence I suggested modelling the sets as originally introduced with blue/grey Mk3s and top and tail 67s as 67s (including the dummy ones) seem easier to come by than DVTs, and wouldn't need paint / vinyls if in a suitable livery.

Frizinghall Models did do a set of Wrexham and Shropshire transfers that's what I used on my blue grey rake , Chiltern also had a D V T painted in Blue and White in the same style as the silver grey ones which they used , my number two son and daughter both work for Chiltern so I HAD to buy the actual set and the extra coaches ,well I thought it's a good excuse anyway.
