Doing this on me phone, but got one, I think!  :beers:

The years have taken their toll, though, and it's more a dust bowl than a flooded quarry.

Excellent modelling, in the case of scrapping of the layout v's the people (restoration) - the case for the defence rests :)

Rolling back the years!!  Yep, still looks good.  I have yet to do water on any of my layouts, but I mentally flied this approach away for future reference!

Cheers Jon  :)

A very small update.... the winter sun was quite warm in the garage today, so in a moment of enthusiasm (and also to get away from World Cup stuff), I went out and started cleaning up the layout.

My battery vacuum was useless, so I pulled out the heavy guns. While I am aware of the technique of putting a nylon stocking over the nozzle to prevent stuff getting sucked up, I couldn't be bothered. As one of the primary objectives was to get rid of the beastie droppings, I thought it was better off left open anyway.

I'm pleased to report that the droppings are gone, though I did manage to suck up a Peco beer wagon which I didn't see sitting on a siding. Immediate removal of the bag and a torch and long-nosed pliers quickly retrieved it.

The entire layout was really filthy, but it's now looking heaps better. I cleaned the track on the two Castle Eden modules, and I can run a locomotive, although there are issues with some points that are going to be difficult to fix.

I cannot run locomotives into Castle Eden goods yard at all.

As difficult as its going to be, I'm going to start by installing extra power feeds, as someone suggested.

A very slow start, but at least I've got a bit of me mojo back.  :beers:

All hail to the ale. Glad you got the wagon and a bit of mojo back.

I'm going to sound like my wife but hope you washed your hands afterwards  :)

Looking forward to more repair progress and pics.

Cheers weave  :beers:

That's excellent news, George.  Probably making a start will prove to be the most difficult part.

I look forward to hearing about progress with the restoration.

Best wishes.

John

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.

Very pleased that work has recommenced.
Keep it going.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

Glad you've got your mojo back George, hope you can get access to Castle Eden fixed soon as the peeps there are desperately awaiting supplies.   :P

I was going to add something about the "tinnies" to my post but I knew that'd be the main reason to restore service.   :D

As I've said on numerous occasions Caz, not a lot of people here drink tinnies much, and almost nobody drinks Fosters.  :beers: ;)

We'll be up there to see you shortly George. I'd say that a can of Fosters is pretty much a collector's item in Oz nowadays.

You're going to have to hang a wee bit longer, mate... I didn't even attempt to get the mainline going today. Not that there's much of one anyway!

But if it's any consolation, Mrs Bealman said keep at it and then you can repay the man in Canberra!

Better get the beer in, then  :beers:

Great to hear you're back at work on the layout, George. The World Cup is putting a dent in available hours and 7th July the Tour de France starts so there's another excuse I have on the horizon :D
