I'll add my vote for restoration. It was obviously a labour of love. And I seem to remember Castle Eden coaches from my childhood.

Love the narration, too - a delightful blend of Pennine and Strine!

I am literally bowled over by the show of support for restoration. It's very encouraging and certainly making me think hard about the issue.

There are still many problems ahead, however..... one of which being that the layout was designed for four operators, and these days I'm a bit of a lone wolf!

There are other things which irk me too, which I will elaborate on in a future post.

In the meantime, there are a couple of simple things to fix, such as this sinkhole that mysteriously appeared in a field near Troutbeck bridge:

There has also been an invasion by some unidentified Antipodean wildlife in the last six months, which has left some rather large calling cards:

Anyway, easy fixes, but I'd love to know what the critter is.... whatever it is, it's big!  :hmmm:

not that I am an expert in it, but it looks awfully like Possum guano.

Thanks, Graham!

But wouldn't something that size and active have demolished the buildings, etc?  :hmmm:

Is it too large to be a snake? The dual colour is certainly consistent as they pass urea and solid through one opening, just like a bird. Might also explain the lack of damage to the layout. And yes, start restoration work!

Gosh, Roger..... now you've got me worried! I'm going to be scared to take the lid off Dunmail Raise tunnel now!

We have some pretty venomous snakes here! (understatement)  :uneasy:

Google 'snake droppings' and take a look at the images. Some do look quite similar.

A snake will take care of any rats or mice and will make your train room a more exciting place to be.

And if you ask nicely they can slither into tunnels to retrieve those derailed wagons for you...
