Model shops in/around Bournemouth.
« on: March 30, 2017, 12:44:49 AM »
So this weekend, the wife turns 50.

We're off to Bournemouth for a few nights...

..."I hope you've got plans for something to do "...

(She says)

..."Don't worry dear, I'll sort something out "...

(I say)

So...

...can anyone tell me any decent N gauge model shops in/ around the Bournemouth area.

Many thanks.

Better thing to do in the area than shop - though that's always a good idea - this weekend: "Strictly Bulleid" Spring Steam Gala 2017 at Swanage Railway with more WC/BoB locos than you can shake a stick at.

http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/spring-steam-gala-2

Problem is, if you attend you'll have to post some photos when you return. It's a Forum rule. :D

I sprung the same "surprise" on Clare before :D

Having already spoken with The Signal Box in Rochester (long since disappeared now unfortunately :( ) a few times and pre-ordered about 500 quids worth of track and a load of wagons, I suggested we go out one Saturday. "Rochester looks nice, it's got a castle, and a tearoom, and a nice riverside" says I.

So off we go to Rochester, casually ambling past the shops (or so she thinks) when suddenly "Oh look Paul, a model shop!". " Oh yes, so there is, what luck"

Then the penny dropped

Picked up all my track (with a bulk-buy discount), my wagons, and about another 100 quids worth of stuff we found while browsing :)

Only really one place worth visiting, Platform Models and Model Railway solutions, in the same premises

https://www.modelrailwaysolutions.co.uk/

Model Railway Centre I avoid like the plague, Setchfields used to be OK for 00 but not been there for years, not been to Moors valley either but the narrow gauge railway gets good reviews.

If you'd picked 2nd or 4th Friday there's the NGS East Dorset area group meeting (but not Good Friday)

Cheers MIKE

I got my baseboard from them.

Swanage railway is a no go as we're going down on Sunday, plus I wasn't planning to divorce her, well maybe not yet anyway.

Setchfields has a stock of n gauge including scenic items and parts. Farish items can be variable as they dont seem to restock very often when the initial supply has been sold. Moors Valley is mainly narrow gauge. I avoid the Model Railway Centre.

Cheers for all that fellas, helps me sort the wheat from the chaff.

Now all I have to do is find some reason to "pass" the front door.

Swanage railway is a no go as we're going down on Sunday,
if yer in swanage, keep going west to worth matravers for lunch at  the square an compass, good ale, homebrew cider and a large menu of either  a pasty or a pie, spend the afternoon strolling around  the local coast before hitting the kings arms in langton matravers for your evening meal and more decent ale.
