This is why in part modelling the ex-GCR line appeals to me (as well as the line being known by my initials) because I could legitimately model a broad selection of trains.
I've got in touch with a lot of former schoolmates over the past few months and some of my fictitious services go to destinations where they live now (Doncaster, Staveley, Bristol, Basingstoke, Bournemouth and Portsmouth)

Today I found out another ex-schoolmate who now lives in Crawley.
I think I'll order some more Dapol Maunsells to create a portion for Crawley and Brighton from Leeds. Dapol's shade of green is closer to malachite compared with Farish's interpretation of BR's Southern Region green.
I don't know if SR's lined olive green livery lasted till just after nationalisation. Moreover Dapol's Maunsell crimson/cream carriages have a lined crimson band above the windows.

However I attended the York show this afternoon and examined Farish's birdcage sets. As much as I like them I can't imagine them travelling so far up north even on a rule 1 basis!

Today I traded in some 'orribly oversized stock at Rails and came away with several Dapol models:

B17/4 61664 Liverpool in early crest lined green [our family briefly lived in the city];
Set of 3 Maunsell crimson/cream carriages;
1 Maunsell BCK in SR olive.

According to brdatabase.info, 61664 was allocated at Colwick on nationalisation then moved to Woodford Halse from July 1949 until October 1951 when it moved to Norwich Thorpe. Mum might have seen it travelling through Tivetshall, Norfolk in her childhood.

The Maunsells will join my other Southern Region stock on through services from Leeds to the sunny south.

Strictly speaking the olive green BCK should have its roof darkened and in need of a repaint.

That's good to know.  On Marton Hinmarche, it runs between Worcester Shrub Hill and Norwich Thorpe with a cross-regional passenger train in rhubarb and custard (as my dad used to call it).  The fish train runs via the Great Central, connecting via Woodford Halse.
With kind regards
Laurence
