So... I've started rewheeling my Mk 4s with Parkside blackened wheels which are looking smashing. I have some grafar three hole wheels on the way for rewheeling my presflos and cerestar tanks and whatever other wagons I find that still have shiny wheels...
This leaves the thorny subject of the HAA's (and variations on that theme). I have tried the parkside wheels on a grafar and peco wagon and the fit well and have that proper HAA big wheeliness about them. There remain a few questions though:

1. What do I do about the trix ones... they seem to be built for longer axles so the parkside wheels basically fall out.
2. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the grafar wheels have appropriate representation of the disc brakes, I tired fitting some of the brake discs from Dapol Mk 3's on the parkside wheels but they wouldn't fit over the wheel centre and attempts at opening out the centre of the disc mostly opened small cuts in the ends of my fingers. Does anyone know of an alternative source of brake discs that will fit these wheels?

Paint the wheel silver in the brake disc area

there is that approach...

anyone got anything on the minitrix axle length issue?

If you are just trying to eliminate the shiney wheels/treads have you thought about using blackning on the wheels rather than change them all? I have used the Birchwood Casey brass black (Eileens Emporium) on various metals with quite good results. It might be an easier option.

aiming to move to less intrusive flanges as well.
The problem is l'm moving towards larger wheels on the HAAs too, which is where the minitrixes come in

The problems that you have is that there have been a variety of different axel lengths used by different manufactures, and even within different models from the same manufacture.

I've decided that these parkside wheels will fit the minitrix HAAs well enough.
Just need to do all those other wheels that are still with the shiny pizza cutters...  :NGaugersRule:
