Mike's idea is worth a go.

Your back drop could still be painted with colour graded from a bit yellowish lower down to more blue higher in the sky.

Hello,

This is my latest low tech, low cost back scene attempt.
I cut sky out. (thank you Mike!)
Paint back board for 3rd time with light blue plus little bit of yellow-ivory in it. As goes down to horizon, it gets more withe. (Thank you Webbo!)
I didn't buy anything for this project. Yay!
I added smog too.

Hard to see but yellow colour in the sky.

Actual colour is more lighter. Sorry for my cellphone's dark photos.

How do you think?
How can I improve it more?

Dats

Oh yes, Dats, that looks excellent!  I'm glad you persevered, you've made a good job of that!

Quick question for you, in relation to your private message :  Did you like the printed roadways on my layout?  If so, I can send you the printouts via email.  I already paid for them, and you can print them out as many times as you like!

Dats

That looks terrific. I like it.

These roadway printouts you refer to in your PM to Dats, what are they?

I'm liking that backdrop now - nicely done; it adds a lot of character to the scenes.

How can I improve it more?

Hi Dats

That's spot on, I'd say. You could add odd bits of fencing/street lamps/bushes in front of the backdrop to give some depth, but watch out for shadows falling onto the backdrop which would give the game away.

I haven't got around to having a backdrop at all currently, so this has given me some ideas.

Hi, guys,

Thank you all for your encouraging words and ideas!!

One thing I noticed about making back scene is you have to consider the distance between a track and backboard. I don't have any space there, so I had to enlarge the photo pictures.
Otherwise, a train would hide everything even higher view point.
Obviously, if you have some extra space there, you better use scale size photos.
In any case, make sure that you can see at least the top part of the printed photo back scene.
If you can find a photo that shows same ground colors as your ground cover at the bottom of picture is the best for this purpose. (which I couldn't find.)

Now I need to finish rest of back scene including a picture of an Orange Grove to expand Webbo's Growers.
I'm anticipating a problem with the transition from city scene to farm scene in less than 1 inch!

Donald,
Do you have your layout thread?
I want to see more of the trestle(great modelling!!) and rest of the layout!!

Mike,
That's a good idea. I don't have any space there but I'll see what I can do.

Webbo, I was asking Andy about his parking lot treatment.
The effect is outstanding!
The link to his video is here.
Check out the parking lot of the Giant Eagle grocery store.
https://youtu.be/zGNhPfLkZy0
Hopefully, the link works.

Andy,
Is it a printed texture paper that you put on the spot at the Giant Eagle?
From scalescene or some similar web site?

Dats

Hey dats - your doing well there!

My layout thread is a bit of a graveyard at the minute, although that kind of reflects real life progress on the scenery. Luckily that's offset by some busy fun stuff in other bits of life.

Anyway, it's here:

http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=2286.msg358217#msg358217

Incidentally,  there's a current discussion on Trainboard that covers your backscene thinking too, and may be of interest to you. I'm struggling to find it just now though. I'll stick up a link when I stumble over it again.

Donald

OK, found it.  I think there is a companion thread with some more photos too:

Brilliant dats!

Now that is something truly original. And by the way your new backdrop  looks very convincing.

Hi Webbo

Thank you for your time watching the video.
How's your Layout coming?
I'm still working on the back scene including Webbo orange growers area.

Still little early but I wish you and your family a happy and wonderful Christmas!!

Another great fun video, Dats - thanks

If I can make a small suggestion - I would slow down the rate at which the dialogue changes a bit. I'm finding I've got to rush through reading the words and not being able to fully absorb it all - the dialogue and the scenery. I'm a bit slow you know.

As for my layout, I'm planning an update within the next week or so at least before Xmas. I'm having a bit of a problem in deciding how to do things so some comment from the NGF will be sought.

Have a Merry Christmas from me too. Here in Oz, Christmas is the time of heat, beer, feasts with friends, and the beach - doesn't quite match the flavour of Xmas in the Northern Hemisphere, but it is still an important time just the same for all the same reasons.

Hope to see a Christmas video from you soon, Webbo!

Dats!  Dats Dats Dats, what can I say?  I love your new excursion video, and the trailer is excellent.  I really was laughing aloud, and the wife came over to watch.  She laughed too!  You have a talent for comedy!

Wow, the MHRR made a special appearance in the background of your video at the Christmas tree!

There's going to be MHRR 36 before Christmas is here.  Just need to tweak the doodad and switch the wotsit on with the oomajig.
