Derby Lightweight Single Car DMU

Is there a R.T.R. model of this DMU made now or in the past?

I think the answer is no. There were only ever two, and they were different to each other as their origins were from a twin unit that had been started, and so the brake areas were different sizes. It doesn't make for an easily marketable model or kit. I do have a model of one though, but in O gauge.

Etched Pixels does the sides and ends for one of the pair, but his shop is closed at present.

Simple answer is 'No', Maurice but I believe it exists in the 'Orribly Oversize' format.

I've been asking the self-same question myself, to which the answer would appear to be no (as mentioned elsewhere, there is version of the 2 car variant on OO) - I have discovered that Worsley Works 'do' kits for it [the 2 car variant] in N/2mm, but I've no idea as to the scope of the kit i.e. sides only or sides and cab ends.

I would think the brake etch from WW and a cut in window on a 108 chassis - use vehicle roof and a second dome in filler would get a good railcar going.

Yes they were built for that service. On closure of the branch they were used as normal yellow diamond power cars but without a gangway at the inner end. On withdrawal one was transferred to Derby RTC and modified to the Radio Test vehicle Iris. It was replaced by a more modern unit in the 1990's and sold for preservation.

Have made two of these, plus the two car version. Although the single units remain (for now) un-motorised, I powered the two car version with a Farish 87 chassis, which is also suitable for the single units. I expect the Dapol 86 would also fit?
The two car was made from the sides and ends being stuck over an early Farish 101 body, although the singles were eventually made using left over bits from BH Enterprises.

Love the models of the single car variant; Personally, I'd like to recreate a piccie I've seen of a Stoke shuttle service arriving at Newcastle (Under Lyme) - there's just summat about them ... other than they were always good fun to watch the road with a view from behind the driver whenever they were employed on the East of England (Derby/ Nottingham/ Lincoln) to Crewe, cross-country, services back in the late '70s.

Interestingly I have been thinking about my next layout and as a "nod" to the legendary Peter Denny have been looking at a "what if" scenario.

In reality Finmere GC station was originally called Finmere for Buckingham. It cannot be beyond the realms of plausibility that when deciding the route Watkin got agreement to divert the path of the GC slightly to the East and through Buckingham. Here it would meet with the Aylesbury and Buckingham Railway (Later LNWR) with whom it would develop a single station "Buckingham Central" for joint use. South of the station the GC main line would curve back towards Calvert and the LNWR line split at a place called "Padbury Junction". Both double-track. Local trains from Bletchley would shuttle into a central bay platform at the southern end of Buckingham.

Fast forward to the early 1960s. Swanbourne Marshalling Yard was actually built and as a result much freight continued to move off of the GC via the former LNWR line to this yard. Far from becoming a backwater traffic remained buoyant. The Nottingham-London Semi-Fasts would stop at Buckingham to connect with the Bletchley shuttle (latterly formed of these single car Derby units).

Anyway, that is the back-story, I have some track plans in mind but the station will almost definitely be based around one of Ross's Island designs with a southern facing bay as mentioned above.
