Not my scene at all but saw this mentioned on another group I subscribe to and thought the info might be of use to you military and aircraft modellers.  A company called Sankei do a range of aircraft hangers, towers, boarding bridges etc and have a shop on eBay, see http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XSankei+1%2F144.TRS0&_nkw=Sankei+1%2F144&_sacat=0

I've ordered a revel A319 in BA livery kit alongside a rake of virgin mk2's, should probably start a new thread now as my layout finally might begin. I think the sankei kits look sublime but will need time to consider before investing. Cheers caz for pointing them out  :D

Hi all,

Wow - that Tomix tower looks really good. Some of the hangars and associated buildings impressive too.

Tempting me to reconsider my "Airport refuelling" layout plan from a couple of years ago....

This is very much based around the set-up at Prestwick, which I viewed from the window of a plane some years ago and had always felt offered potential.

Plus I have a rake of the ex-Model rail Farish TTA Jet-A1 tanks sitting around at home doing nothing.

The layout would see tank wagons arriving, reversing into the siding for "unloading" then later being picked up, while through traffic would include various Scotrail units plus coal trains, engineers etc.

It may be worth resurrecting if the Revolution 320 goes ahead as it would look good alongside by Scotrail 156 (thanks to C&M Models) and Farish Scotrail 170.

The plan was also inspired by Shaun Gates' excellent Holby Airport Parkway which featured in Model Rail in June 2014 and I very much enjoyed viewing at Model Rail Live last year.  Here is a link to (someone else's) video on You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1wjpQEy_HA

cheers

Ben A.

How much real estate on a layout would a hangar take up? Even in N, it must be a lot.

I guess a low relief hangar would be the solution.

It depends on the length of your piece of string!

You could always shrink the plans and use 1/200 or 1/700 aircraft for perspective??

The photo in that last link reminds me a bit of the old (1960s) Thunderbird airport sets a bit....

Mind you, you could always go the full hog as in Minatur Wunderlad Hamburg:

The vehicles are moving around all the time, too!  ;)
