I've recently started building a number of Kestral kits to go on a layout for my oldest grandson's Christmas present.

one of the kits the 'town station' set, which I had expected would come with it's platform sections, but doesn't.

I've got both standard and wide platforms, but it appears the station will not fit on even the wide platform. as the platforms come as one piece, rather than top and walls, has anyone got any suggestions as to how to modify the platforms to fit the station buildings before I start to butchermodify them ?

has anyone built one of these on a bridge, to access the platforms below ?

I made one of these for a friend a couple of years ago and if I remember correctly it is just at a single platform level. I used standard Peco platform walling for the rail side of the platform and built up a car park area to the same level with polystyrene tiles. Outside the confines of the car park I created a very gradual slope back to ground level and blended the extremities in with the surrounding landscape. The rear of the platform was delineated with a fence and the surface was covered in a layer of 1mm card and then fine sandpaper glued down to make a tarmac surface. If I was using a fixed width platform unit I would build up to the platform level with polystyrene to make an area for the building to sit on and a car park/yard area and then chamfer it down to ground level to make a surrounding grass bank.

The kit doesn't really lend itself to overhead use but If I were to try it I would put the canopy on the road side, make the rear (rail side) of the assembly fit flush and use parts from the footbridge kit to make steps down to the platforms from the existing doors. They may or may not fit track geometry so some modification may be necessary. Not an easy hack but it might work.

Many thanks for that, DWB.

so it looks as though I'll have to raise the road side of the platform to support the station buildings where they hang over the rear of the platform, and then either extend the walls down to the baseboard level, or perhaps have ramps / steps up from the car park outside.

I used a Metcalfe Platform kit.  With them you can make the platform to the size and shape you want.
