Our eldest cat, Smudge, passed away about 9 this morning ...  We had thought we nearly lost him early in the Summer, but he pulled back from a poorly spell, but this past few days he'd been off-colour again; sadly, it was his time.

15 years 30 days we'd had him, he was only just weaned (his mother wasn't much more than a year old herself, & didn't know how to look after her two kittens) ... a South London tabby cat who hunted grasshoppers in the lawn of his first garden, & who enjoyed the South Shropshire countryside with the mouse & shrew hunting this garden offered.

We still have two others; his sister Rosie (who's still quite active), and 5-y-o Tigger (who'd helped keep Smudge young at heart).  Needless to say, we're taking this hard.

Sorry to hear about the loss of Smudge, Mike - I know all to well what it's like to lost a beloved pet and it's never easy.

Sorry to hear about Smudge, Mike. I know it is like losing one of the family. We gave homes to 2 abandoned cats that were with us for many years. When we came back from the vets the last time without one of them, we had to stop the car for an emotional 5 mins.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Sorry to hear that Mike. It is very sad and hard is the only way you can take it, that's for sure.

I'm a personality prototype... you can tell, can't you.

Sorry to hear that Mike.  Having lost one of my furry devils last year I know how hard this can hit you.

Time does ease the passing but you never forget.

MikeDunn

Thanks all ... as you say, you never forget them

Sad news to lose an old friend, however I'm sure he had
a long and happy life with you.

Sorry to hear - been there.

A sad time but I'm sure he had a great life and leaves you with plenty of memories to make you smile.

Such sorrowful news, Mike :(
Sounds like Smudge had a good innings, though, and I'm sure you have many happy memories of your time with him.

Well, we went shopping today.  So what, you may think ?

It hit us both again when we came in & there wasn't a curious face at the inner door, waiting to see what we were bringing in for him, or peering into the bags (occasionally jumping into a large one) to find meat or treats ...

The other two cats know that something's up; but haven't fully realised they're not going to see their friend again ...  :(  He's just "outside somewhere" to them at the moment ...

So sorry about Smudge... We lost our Bumpy a month ago and I understand how much our furry friends are part of our lives.  Sounds like you loved Smudge very much so at least know that you gave him a happy life
