I have just had some old cine-films put onto DVD, including several sequences of railway subjects including BR and French subjects along with bits of a more personal (no not that personal!) nature. I probably could, just, manage to upload the whole thing but would rather split it into smaller chunks. Could any of the more computer literate among the members give me a blow by blow account of how to do this. I could then upload, say French clips and English clips searately and then give you all links to follow.

Is it an avi ? ( I've not tested this with any other format ) :--

Download VirtualDub
unzip into a folder somewhere* ( no installation needed)
run virtualdub.exe
drag&drop your vid
set selection start
set selection end
save

Edit * can be on USBdrive even. ie. it is portable.

For years now I have been using AVS Video Editor software to create videos to burn to disk or upload to YouTube. I also use Picasa to turn still pictures into a video clip sequence, but then import them into AVS together with any video footage taken on my Sony camcorder.

AVS Video Editor is not the most user friendly of video editors, but I have got used to it's foibles by now, and you can do almost anything with it down to editing at single frame level.
