Your description of the sky is certainly spot on.... is that just the lighting conditions?  :hmmm:

Yes, we wanted the room painted cream, but it took 5 coats and now it's Colmans mustard yellow. Add in a gloomy day and tungsten lights, I knew I was as onto a loser yesterday! My phone has an 'Instant' filter which gives it all a dodgy colour film feel.

A proper back-scene is on the to-do list...

I like the colmans mustard!

And the photos do have an 8mm Kodak look to them..... you may have taken some classic photos without realising it!  :beers:

A sunnier day today, so here are some daylight snaps with something bluish draped behind:

I've been hugely impressed by RogerDB's Wrenton thread, and his photographic techniques. Another project on the to do list!

A quick update on progress with the colliery itself. Coal screens now added. A simple building made from Ratio corrugated sheeting with Kestrel windows. This sits on the remains of a Lyddle End 'Loading Chute'. The windows will be glazed (Humbrol Clearfix) and painted in due course.

This isn't modelled on a specific prototype, but the Big Pit at Blaenavon and the Beamish Colliery have provided me with ideas.

Seconded. Really excellent model building construction to a very high standard indeed. It now needs, of course, plenty of weathering! 8-)

Thanks guys. Here are some snaps from The Big Pit, Blaenavon.

It's just on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, and I strongly recommend a visit if you're in the area. As it's part of the National Museum of Wales it's free, and the underground tour is something you'll not forget quickly..

Beamish is also a great day out with all sorts of rail and Victoriana to enlist as source material. If you've not seen it, check out @BobWild 's thread, which sets the bar very high for colliery models!

Agreed.
The underground tour is amazing. Especially when the lights go out.
There’s dark and there’s black. This is black and you can just imagine the rats running around your feet.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

Low sun across the layout made this snap a must!

No.8 with its tender/reach-wagon pushes empties under the screens.

Seconded!

Being too young to be much aware of main line steam, I made up for this by getting to know Ayrshire colliery steam very well in the early 'seventies.

Many thanks for excellent photographs.

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.
