Osborns SR Schools 4-4-0 'Cheltenham' Lined Green
« on: December 16, 2014, 08:25:42 AM »
Not sure where to post the following info received via email late last evening from Michael of Osborns. Mods please move if required:

Still waiting on Dates from Dapol for the Schools, but It looks like it will be in Maunsell over Malachite. Sorry that we can't give any more info at the moment. Very frustrating as 2014 was the 80th anniversary for Cheltenham, 81st anniversary is not quite the same. Also we have West country 'Bideford' being made for us which has a 70th anniversary in 2015 so we are crossing our fingers for that as well.

Hope this is useful.

Nice of Osborns to keep us up to date. Not really much they can do about Dapol's slow-down in developments.
Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

Also very very nice to have confirmation that it's going to be in Maunsell green. Thanks for that, Dave.

Michael was responding to my email enquiry re the Schools but very much appreciate he replied the same day.

I did go back with thanks and that I would be sharing the update with the Forum.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad common sense has prevailed and they'll be releasing one in Maunsell Southern livery rather than the already proposed Malachite - a renumber is easier than a repaint!

Renumber/rename one of the many other Malachite ones being released at lower cost by Dapol?

An email in this morning from Michael of Osborns advises:

Unfortunately no more details than they have told everybody else, this is the update we had from Dapol when we asked about delivery dates for our exclusives:

OSBND002     14xx & Autocoach       June 2015
OSBND004     Arlington Grange        June 2015
OSBND003     A4 Peregrine              August 2015
Schools          In tooling                  End of Year

I am hoping that it will be the same as the Western Diesel where we actually got ours before the Dapol general release.

Maybe the news re their other exclusives may cheers some up! I'll copy the info to the Osborns thread as well.

Has anyone seen the Dapol advert at the back of the latest NGS Journal? Cat 004 is for a Maunsell green 'Schools', remarkably enough.

Just had a word with Osborns, and upped my order to 2, thinking it will be easier to renumber & rename one rather than get one from Rails or elsewhere and do a complete repaint, and reline job, that might save a few pennies in initial outlay but at a much higher level of hassle on the bench.

So far no news of expected delivery date, just hope the Dapol ad in the NGS Journal is right. Pity it has now missed the chance of appearing at this year's Bournemouth show with a rake of Maunsells on the E Dorset area group layout.
Cheers MIKE

Presumably just the photos arrived, not a model. Or am I wrong?
It looks very nice - no sign of a drive shaft between tender and loco - is the motor really in the loco?
The chimney base looks rather prominent - I have a black BR version on pre-order so hopefully the larger Bulleid chimney will be formed better.

Hi Ian,

I actually have this one here, it is just a paint sample so no motor hence no drive shaft, to my knowledge the West Country will be the first with the loco drive (but don't quote me on that one)
