Hi, I've just found one of these controllers in my garage, part of an old set of my fathers, but can't find the wires to connect to the track. Any idea, as you have one, what the plugs(?) are for the outputs of the controller? Trying to see if I can buy these from somewhere but not sure what I'm looking for.

Thanks

Gary

You're looking for Wanda plugs... and so am I. They don't seem to be made any more. I have more chance of spotting a hen's teeth.

Try looking for deltron 4mm connectors, or which ever size you need.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Unfortunately 4mm plugs don't fit, not even close, so it will definitely have to be another size.  ;)

The 4mm ones are some I have used, they do other ones. They call them Deltron plugs now.

Hmm... can't see anything other than 4mm there and I have it on excellent authority that they don't fit: http://www.dem-uk.com/deltron-components/products/

I recently got a PE144 on Ebay, I solved the plug problem by removing the sockets and fitting on screw terminal blocks (choccy blocks) It meant drilling out the rivets to open the case which I replaced with self tappers. I also wired up the 16VAC from each transformer to use on CDUs.

While I had the case open I drilled two holes in the base so I could bolt it to my panel.

The only criticism I have of the PE144 compared to other AGWs is that the overload light does not come on until the control is getting near full, must investigate see if I can improve matters.
Cheers MIKE

Faux Wanda plugs using phono plugs and some jazzy cable. Chop off all the plastic to leave the bare pin, solder on the cable and a bit of adhesive heatshrink, and violin... I mean, viola:

Just been reading a thread on couplings and saw a post which said that H&M controllers were unsuitable for N gauge as it would "fry their little motors".

My H&M Clippers gave excellent service in the 1970s/early 1980s with N and I am still using one now to test my track. At the time they were the best available 'transformers' as we knew them back then.
If in doubt check the manufacturer's label - any reputable maker will tell you if the controller is suitable for N Gauge.
If it's not a Diesel Hydraulic then it's not a real locomotive.

I have used the Gaugemaster Model D for 30 years.

They provide a lifetime guarantee and when I had an issue with the controller 6 years ago (it was almost 25 years old then and this is the only time I have had a issue) they replaced it with a new version free of charge.  Very impressive.

The details are:-

Twin Track Transformer Controller for 'N', 'OO' and most small Gauges, with two accessory outputs, this is the most popular unit in our range.

Input:   Mains (240 volts A.C.) use 3 amp fuse
Output:   2 x 12v D.C. at 1 amp each controlled
Accessories:   1 x 16v A.C. at 1 amp uncontrolled
1 x 12v D.C. at 1 amp uncontrolled
Measurements:   148mm x 90mm x 125mm deep
