Robbies Rolling Stock - Transfers
« on: June 29, 2014, 04:30:18 PM »
Hi

I have been trying out the transfers from Robbies Rolling Stock

The first two complete with another 5 seven plank wagons and a further 5 tankers in progress

Finishing the wagons is tricky and I needed to take my time

To improve the tanker I fitted piano wire to cover up where the original Peco wagon's raised molded line was as this needs to be removed for the transfer to sit correctly

I will post photos of the other wagons as I complete them

I think Robbie does a great job, not least because he did our NGF hoppers ;)

Hmm... I've got a couple of books on PO wagons. This might be the perfect way to achieve some of those 'local' wagons...

Hi

The next batch of wagons are complete with only two more on the bench

The 7 plank wagons

The tank wagons

These two are still on the workbench as I need to match the transfer colour. The 7 plank should be fine with a paint mix but the tank wagon will need a specific blue and Robbie has provided the colour reference

These look great!

Do you apply the transfer first to the unpainted model then paint around with the matched colour?

Nice wagons. They take a bit getting used to but copious use of decal softner they settle into all the nooks and crannies perfectly.

Robbie even downsized some 7 plank decals so they would fit 5 plank wagons at no extra charge.

Zwilnik

There is a need to first paint the area where the transfer is to be placed as Robbie prints on clear sheets.  The white background shows through so the letters are white

Alex

I found if too many coats of decal fixer are used this can damage the transfer.  After the first wagon side I did follow the instructions and used PVA and this helps stick the transfer over the features

Agreed using Robbie's transfers is tricky but it is nice to have unusual wagons

Hi All

The final two complete from the first batch - Brotherton and Hamish Scott

A bit of trouble getting a good match on the blue as the colour advised by Robbie is no longer available

Happy with the results from the first batch so ordered more transfers

Note the Dapol 20 ton wagon rather than the usual Peco 10 ft

Just got around to looking at this. Very nice work! Certainly refreshing to see something different to the same old.... (like on my layout  :-[)

Great stuff

I very much like the 'Inveresk Paper' truck as in years gone by I used to purchase clay coated paper from Inveresk for use in printing the 'Breakaway' chocolate bar wrapper.

Thanks for the link - really nice work & like a few have said, getting a few out of the ordinary wagons is worth the effort (and very satisfying to do it yourself, though it is tempting to get them RTR from Robbie!)

Cheers,
Andrew
