Prototype HST is back!
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:12:12 AM »
As a keen member of 125 Group I've been following the story of the recommissioning of prototype HST power car 41001 in the group magazine.

Thought this bit of excellent news was worth posting here

Well done to all involved in this mammoth task! :beers:

That's great news.

I'm hoping to do something similar myself, but on a much smaller scale, later this year...

It was great to see her at swanage and I was lucky enough to be in the cab when they started her up  :D

While in the cab I was speaking to some of the staff that came down with her and they said it was a matter of weeks before she was up and running under her own power, how right they well and well done.

So much shiner than it was at Rail 150 in 1975! Now it just needs a nice matching prototype Mk.3 to go with it.

Pity they scrapped the other power car!

The prototype Mark 3 coaches were rebuilt into Lizzies train weren't they - so if we all lobby to become a republic perhaps we can have them back ;-)

A good few years ago I remember seeing Test Car 10 at (I think) the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley, but this coach now seems to be part of the NMT and, disappointingly, seems to have lost its distinctive prototype doors. Only two are in the Royal Train, two in the NMT and one scrapped. The rest of the prototype coaches were put into HSTs, recognisable only by their lack of raised window frames. Interestingly they do seem to have the same frames as the production coaches but the surrounding metal was joggled in and the resulting narrow gap filled with stopping (detail noted from TC10 where the stopping was starting to come out).

They scrapped as it had my first design on it, securing an additional resistor in the control cubicle!

Hi Good news all round. I guess that a production PC needed to make a set -repainted in rail grey/ rail blue to match is the best we can hope for and a couple of trailers repainted. Grand Central have a couple of TGS unused!

Dapol coaches look good in grey /blue - rake part painted on bench just need some wizard in 3D printing world to do the power cars to fit Dapol chassis- any offers? and how many takers ? How many takers for Dapol commission for coaches? - and you dont need a TGS !!!  - if I get 100 commitments might be worth asking Dapol to quote  5 trailers and 2 buffets to get ball rolling? I wonder if they would consider an Ixion style power car contract?? would be a premium price due to short run recovery of development cost...
