I've just looked at the Model Bus Zone website about the buses' releases, it says:
"The Leyland Atlantean models are scaled down versions of the 1/76 scale Britbus models AN1-01 & AN1-12"

Yep - I'd noticed that, right down to the ill fitting upper deck front winscreen and the strange looking wing mirrors!!

The East Yorkshire one is even the same fleet no/registration as the 4mm version (which I already have) but I'll probably still have one as they were very common on route 60 as modelled which passed my childhood home  :)

The first two coaches are arriving at retailers this week. No photos yet.

I wish someone would do a few pre-war buses though. That's WWII by the way.  Does anyone know of any? I can only find the Bedford OB and that's a tad modern for me.

Another vote for pre war, I'm after late 20's - mid 30's Leylands, single and double deckers. I've done a couple of hacks to get something that looks close but only "close enough" for the rear half of the layout.

Cheers MIKE

I have quite a lot of the lorries and vans that have been made they are very good BUT the quality has gone down just a bit ,When the first few came out they had actual rubber tyres now they are plastic and one of the tankers was a bit high and one lorry had a twisted flatbed caused by the screw going in cross threaded but I would still recomend.  them they are .
still good value for money

I have received the Greenline and National Travel East versions of the Duple Dominant today from Hattons. Selections of pictures below. They look convincing to me.

A quick question for the bussie people out there, when were these introduced? Am looking for m=something suitable for the early 1970s and am thinking about the atlantean as an option but would have to wait for a more suitable livery for the South West unless there are any other options someone can suggest.

Best wishes
Simon

The Dominant II (deep front screen, shallow rear) was introduced in 1976.

Ok so that one is a little too new for my layout then, thanks Bernard.

That particular design of Park Royal body on the Atlantean was first produced in 1972. It sold well to the PTEs throughout the 1970s and many NBC subsidiaries had some, though for most it was always second favourite after the Bristol VR...

From around 1972/3 all National Bus Company subsidiaries used the standard red or green liveries anyway so all you should need to do is select either a red or green one as apropriate for your area and change the fleetnames...

Sounds good, so a greenie one changed to Western National would be the answer then. Any ideas where to acquire the transfers?

The Oxford Plaxton would be suitable for early 1970s; there were still plenty in service for National at that time even though the design was superseded in 1968.

I believe that western national still had  Bristol Lodekka LD in service till the mid seventies these are available through oxford diecast

A well-known Liverpool retailer has both Southdown and East Yorkshire Atlanteans in stock:

... but no images available, has anyone bought one? I'm curious to see how good their Southdown version is like.

I've seen images of production versions of both Atlanteans:

Neither version has the side sliding window ventilators printed or moulded on, not too sure about the windscreens, either - they should be more curved than they are on the model and I suspect the corner pillars are thicker than usual because of the moulding process, see photos of Park Royal-bodied vehicles via this link
