Sadly it has numerous errors, which invariably end up transposed all over the web.

Interesting Bob, thanks for that. Not having seen a Ramsey's before, where might one be able to acquire these volumes? I'm presuming Ramsey's themselves.

PS: It's interesting what you say about "market prices". It's similar in other collector's markets whereby a collator of information attempts to put a value on items. The issue as I see it is that prices are dynamic (they go up or/and down) depending upon supply/demand, yet once a reference manual is published, it is rather static in nature, and does not reflect the true value of an item in a dynamic environment. It's something you see a lot of in the numismatic field, with wildly different "catalogued" values to those in the real marketplace.

That said, I haven't seen Ramsey's so will just relate it to my experience in other fields. Any attempt to collate historic information is a good one and if we, as a community, can iron out the mistakes / misprints etc. then I'm sure we'll get there eventually with a difinitive guide. I know from my own research that there are differing versions of history out there when it comes to Farish production lists.

You want the two volume 8th edition. Dr Al is right - there are some errors and (fewer) omissions, but it's still a valuable reference.
