G'day All,
I thought  this will set the Cat amoungst the Pigoens but definetly something we all should consider. How the thought  came about my Chief Engineer and Best Mate,from Greenvale Qld  Bruce( The Fat Controller )Wetzig has been recently diagnosed with Cancer with perhaps not a long time left. We had just returned from O/Seas  so it was a huge shock as our F C has been such a big help for me on my Layout. Both of us are Big Kids with large N Scale Layouts down here in Far North Qld, and have both  been in the Hobby for in excess of 30 years so have a fair size collection.
We were quite quickly stuck with the problem of F C's Layout and Collection  what do we do with it ? The last thing Bruce needs is to worry about is that and with no Model Railway Clubs/Hobby Shops up here ( we are working on starting  a Club ) E/Bay or selling it off to a City based Store is about the only options.
Our Battle Plan was to sell off whatever was agreed upon if one of us went first and give the cash to our Wives and if we managed to grow old disgracefully together at some stage dismantle and sell it all and have a Holiday     with the proceeds    .
I thought this maybe a Hot Topic for the Forum as it's something we all have to face at some stage.  Will it be Heaven    or will it be Hell  Cheers, Denis.

Basically comes down to whether or not you have been a good boy. And only you will know that. The Rules are simple and there are 10 of them. Have you coveted your neighbours wife or his ox?  Then just 9 more to answer.

Not sure though how many ticks you have to score out of 10 though.

Think the rules are more simple for Roman Catholics though. Something about confession but don't know how that works - in films and TV dramas it looks too straight forward to me so I don't think I really understand it.

If it comes down to if I've been good or not then I better buy a Flame proof suit now  .
The question on if I fancied next door's Wife or not I think can be answered by describing my height ratio to that of my Margaret. I am 5'2'', She is 5'7'' I come up to her Boobs. I am never, ever going to beat that arrangement so why bother looking.
Death is never a popular topic but it is a part of Life. Most of us that have been in the Hobby a long time whether actively building not not, we still bought items. I know I did during my non construction period and most items are worth a fair bit of Cash especially these days. When I think of what items cost now,  Oh my God!!
I think we should all have a plan of what to do with our collection be they big or small even if it is just a inventory of what's there, is a good start. One I'm not disciplined enough to get one going and with my current state of health perhaps I should but there is always something better to do. I thank you for your thoughts, Cheers, Denis.

What happens to the layout is probably straight forward. Since the 2 yr old nephew will be more interested in girls, iPad borne entertainment, and probably boozing with his mates by Judgement Day, and the Science Museum really won't want it, then SWMBO will have it chucked in the skip and install a nice single bed with a floral duvet cover to tidy up the bedroom at last. A bloke might come round and give £10 for all the locos as a favour. But that's probably about it for most people.

Not Fair at all!!!.  My Missus reckons if I didn't behave she'd give it to LifeLine until I told her she can go shopping with the proceeds after she sold all the Rolling Stock that gave her food for thought. Plus I said I'd come back and haunt her of a night.  I'm still not behaving but I'm sure your comments are pretty much what will happen to most Layouts.

My thoughts might not be appreciated by some but......

As regards Heaven and Hell, I do not believe in either nor do I believe I shall experience anything!

As for the layout(s), mine included, in my will it states that everything I own be sold to pay for my funeral!

It is of little concern to me what happens to anything of mine after my death.

My Dad does that Gauge O Guild shenanigans, they have a service specifically for liquidation of deceased members assets. He says it is quite depressing how much that side of the organisation has grown in recent years.

There are instructions in my will as to how to dispose of my N gauge stuff and what to do with the proceeds (nominated charity).
I have no SWMBO/kids and the rest of the family aren't interested in model railways.
They have the house, car, and whatever money is left after I've spent it all at Rails
As to where I end up, as Dave Allen would say "That's a matter between me and my God"

This actually crosses my mind from time to time.

Same dilemma - Family would just let it rot, don't want to just give it away, but piece by piece model RR stuff can make a pretty penny on ebay. That's the route I would go...sell it on ebay and let the family (wife) do with the proceeds what she will.
