fuel to Lossie or Kinloss

looking at possible freight flows, and I wondered if anyone knew how Kinloss and / or Lossiemouth got their fuel in the mid 80's ?

AFAIK there was no rail link so I assume they didn't get it direct by rail, as per Leuchars, but did it arrive via Elgin ?

thanks in advance for any info anyone can give

I think there's a pipeline from Inverness area to Lossiemouth, there wouldn't be one from Grangemouth as
this would mean crossing the Grampian mountains and would be too far. There is (was?)  a line from Grangemouth
to Loch Long.

so looks like a possible flow to Inverness then pipeline to Kinloss and Lossie.

looks like PG models new tanker, and when available it's trailer, will have to be wagon loads heading for unloading at Elgin.

Spoke to the mrs who was at 81su kinloss in the 90's confirms the fuels were piped in. Some of fuel tanks were actually under the hardened hangers. Seems a daft thing to do till you think a bit harder about it.

Just rang my son, ex Kinloss and Lossie. Early 80s, road tanker; late 80s ->, pipeline.

It all comes from Inverness.

pipeline would obviously still give me the railhead, but road tankers could well give me the excuse to use PGs tankers and trailers.

ok, I know these are airfield tankers, an it would be unlikely that they would run to Inverness to refill, but it could provide an interesting cameo. perhaps without the yellow airfield stripes, a pool tasked with resupply to the on station tanks ?

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  I feel a rule 1 coming on  >:D
