Trix Deutsche Reichsbahn class 56 steam engine
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:18:32 AM »
I got this little gem second hand for a nice price. It was an impulse buy, could not pass it up.

It needed gunk and lint cleaned out of its mechanism but after that it runs perfectly.
This is a tender drive engine like a Union Mills model, but the pick-up is all in the loco. All the loco wheels pick up power and there are two wires between the cab and tender. the tender draw bar is attached with a screw.
There are six traction tires on the tender. It is quite powerful. It had no problem pulling five coaches which is the longest train I can assemble in my shop at the moment.

The brass lamps on the pilot illuminate, but I haven't figured out how yet.

My SNCF 231 has a bulb in the boiler barrel and plastic light pipes through to the lamps

I have one of these little beauties and am delighted with its appearance and performance- even secondhand.

It is, however, about to be disposed of through no fault of its own- when I built Furtwangen Ost I had no intention of having the Furtwangener Eisenbahnfreunde operating locos this big, and I built the layout with inadequate platform clearance.

All the very best
Les

Thats a lovely little loco, thanks very much for sharing a picture.  I find that lots of the continental locomotives look far better in reality than they do in pictures, but this looks great!

Lovely loco - I have just started getting into German Loco's a bit, so I can try to put together a few Polish trains, and they are really smart!

Les - if you are going to get rid of your class 56, let me know how much you want for it - it would make a nice Polish class Tr-5!  :)  (If I can afford it that is...)
LNER (and PKP) fan in the home of the GWR!
