Modellbahn Union black A4
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:47:29 AM »
I bought 2 A4s and an A3 from Modellbahn Union at TINGS and both A4s have had their valve gear fall apart. Not good after spending nearly 360 quid :(

I hope not as it won't have a guarantee. Out of 6 only one hasn't had a fault at some point.

Silver Link - Speedo link lost its rivet
Mallard Black - 2 with broken valve gear
BR green A4 - out of gauge wheels rode up over every point
BR green A4 - screeching noise
LNER Mallard - absolutely fine.

Noise and gauging I can deal with, as also the motion if it falls off but the rivet would be an issue, my fingers are firmly crossed and I shall be giving careful attention to all rods before running in.. thanks.

I hope not as it won't have a guarantee.

Surely it should. Still under Dapol's 24month no quibble???? A4s have been around less than 24months, so surely they all should still be covered unless they've been meddled or modded???

Cheers,
Alan

When you send locos to DCC Supplies they require a reciept.

Modellbahn Union are disappointed that I mentioned this on a public forum and I have informed them that I am disappointed to have spent 360 quid on 3 locos where 2 don't work. Decided to go for a refund instead.

Good to read that they seem to have handled the issue effectively - so certainly deserve credit for that.

In my mind public forums are the place to discuss this sort of thing. The place where I actually said there was a problem was on their Facebook page. I certainly won't be buying anything from them again.

I agree about having the freedom to tell a true story on the forums. As long as the comments/criticisms are accurate and/or constructive (as yours indeed are) then that is fine.
That is why I don't bother with other forums such as the big one beginning with 'R' due to the fact that they are commercially owned and have to censor any criticisms no matter how valid through fear of upsetting their sponsors or the like.

Regarding Modelbahn Union, I can understand your frustration at buying x2 dodgy A4's but surely it was Dapols Quality Control that seems to be the issue?
By the sounds of things they have given you a refund which seems fair enough to me. I don't blame you for not wanting to shop there again but it seems that it is some other companies product that is the issue here. I wouldn't stop shopping at Tesco just because a Dyson Hoover I bought from them was faulty for example.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you have had and I look forward to seeing your new A3 on Elvinley Layout soon via some pictures I hope

All the best.

When locos have to be returned for refunds, apart from the nuisance of having to post them back there's the disappointment of not getting the model you had wanted for some time. Added to that is the loss of faith in the manufacturer.

And I am still waiting for my refund though Modellbahn Union asked for my Paypal address two weeks ago.  :veryangry:

That's a fair amount of time to wait for a lot of cash.

Perhaps time for a polite reminder. I have to say, I had no trouble sorting out the issue with my A3 (ordered 2, received only 1), but did have difficulty contacting them initially through ebay where I made the purchase.

Cheers,
Alan
