I've been given a Union Mills LMS 2F for my birthday - perfect small engine for my layout. Its slow running is beautiful but its starting is not so good. You have to turn the controller right up to start it moving, when it goes with a jerk; you can then slow it down. Not good for shunting: it jerks the trucks off the track.

I've spoken to Mr Union Mills about it who says it is an incompatibility between my controller and the motor. Not sure I believe him as my older Union Mills 3F doesn't have the same problem, and I am using a very basic Gaugemaster controller.

Does anyone have experience of this? Is there a simple way of fixing it?

Have you run it in yet? You may find it improves after a few hours running.

I'd agree, give it about an hour in each direction to bed it in. If this doesn't help, phone Mr Union mills again and ask for advice, almost all Gaugemaster controllers should be fine with these loco's - which controller do you have ?
If it's got rails... you have my full, undivided attention - Steam, diesel and electric, 'tis all good !

I have 2 Union Mills locos and they are the dogs doo daas as far as performance goes.  Hope this one will settle down in time.
Some days its just not worth gnawing through the straps.

If the 'running in' does not rectify the problem get in touch with Colin again. I have always had a positive result with Colin, and I can't recall any other member to be any different. Cheers john.

Is it the basic gaugemaster or feeeback one ?
